i have seen some pictus catfish in my lfs which are kept with malawi cichlids , i have done a bit of reading and apparently they need to be kept in a small group , do think they would make good tank mates.
A trio of Pim Pictus should work fine with Malawi's provided your tank is big enough, they get to about 6 inches so not too big. Other options that work are various species of Synodontis catfish, like Eupterus and Multipunctatus.
I have 3 Pim Pictus catfish in my Malawi tank, and they are absolutely fine. Just be aware that they are greedy blighters with a big mouth and will gorge on any food only to look like they are going to explode. When I first got them I thought they were constipated . I got excellent advice on here about it.
thats great, seeing these fish feed is amazing just like sharks.
thanks for the advice , as i can see you are both from the uk do you know if holy rock is stocked anywhere i have checked all my lfs dont mind traveling for it
I live in Manchester and most of my LFS sell Tuffa rock, aka ocean rock, aka holy rock. If Manchester is any good to you, let me know and i'll give you a few web links.
ahh i did not realise holy rock was the same as tufa i take it it can be carved , the one in my lfs are just lumps but i have seen some better ones on here.
still seem very shy.suppose they are settling in.are pictus "in your face" as i've been told ie swimming around at all levels,or,are they slightly shyer than i was led to believe?
Malawi Cichlids, in my experience should not be fed a diet that is high in protein. This would include meaty foods such as bloodworm. Pim pictus, however,do require such foods.....so I would not advise keeping them together.
