ok I've decided I definitely want a malawi set up
and have also decided I don't like the look of haps. (sorry hap lovers ;) )
I do like the shape of aulonocara species so I'm asking
for pics of yours to help me choose the ones Iwant.

I'll be definitely having
some Synodontis njassae
and (if I can get them) Barbus trimaculatus
both of which are endemic to Malawi.

so come on guys get posting your pics :good:

:hey: have to agree with aberdeen.
Wolf, you cant have seen a true happ set up if you can honestly say you dont like them. I was like you and found them very boring, but a few months ago I had the great pleasure of seeing a mature and male dominated tank, it was out of this world mate. the baby happs you tend to see in a fish stores are absolutaly nothing like a mature happ, so much so, that I have just spent over £300 on those fish that I have never found particulaly interesting, that was just for fish, and nothing else.

um, aulonocara are haps

shows how much I know
what I ment was those that have hap as part of their common name, like
the deep water hap, Super VC-10 hap, Royal blue hap etc.
all the ones I've looked at seem to me to have a very odd shaped head
often a diferent colour to their bodies to.

I find it hard to believe noone has any photos to show off :/

mine are not worth showing off yet, only young and very little colour.

brewyn how long does it take mate for aulonocara to colour up the ones i have are very dull one has a blueish face with yellow body showing through but still quiet brown and the other 2 are brown?

hello mark. not really sure bud as only started to keep them a couple of months ago myself. I have 3 different types, all of about 2 inches, the females will remain dull in colour, but my males have started to colour slightly, especialy the aulonacara baenshi. I also have aulanocara marmala pearl and aulanocara kornelia. the marmela pearl are not that fantastic and I cant find any refference on them. so if anyone has a photo of an adult, I would love to see it.

ok fine
I'll go else where for pics.
mods close this please

now, now. dont go getting yourknickers in a twist! have you tried looking on malawimayhem?

Hello bobf, thanks for that mate, it could very well be them. when we bought them we wrote the names of the fish on the bags that they were in, the fella had them down as marmela, they look the same and they appear to grow into a nice looking fish. cheers mate, has pleased me that. :good:
