Hi, I just wanted to share these 2 photographs of my platy as she's about to give birth. I thought the pictures would help people new to breeding platies :)

The squared off flat stomach is really clear, as is the open birthing tube.

Woah! Her birthing tube is right open! Are you putting her in a breeding trap? You'll have tonnes of fry from her...

Are you putting her in a breeding trap?

No, I'm inundated with fry right now. Any fry she has will have to take their chances in the big tank. My fry tank is over-stocked and I need to get rid of a few this week if I can.

I've taken the pictures as I keep reading similar posts about when they are ready to give birth and trying to explain about the square, flat belly and open tube. I've managed to get photographic evidence of what I'm trying to explain :)

unrelated to post but there's also a cory egg on the underside of the leaf just above her dorsal fin

Aww... I wish she was in my tank, I never get any fry, I think there is something wrong with my females...

If you want some of her fry I have loads. Just say the word and we can arrange somewhere to meet and you can have whatever you want :)

Well done Akasha. It is good to show pictures of what people have a hard time understanding.

Each time it happens more people learn to see it in their own fish. That was the whole point to my molly thread. I wanted people to understand each stage of fry development and told my story with pictures.

Thank you :)

I just wish I could've got an extra picture of a fry actually being born but that would be too difficult.

I've not seen any of the fry yet so I've no idea if any survived - time will tell :)

They are fab pictures! This forum and the pictures have been an absolute god send for me personally as a beginner that inherited some mollys which inevitably lead to fry that we were not expecting.

Have also gone from 1 small 20 ish litre tank to 3 tanks! still got the original 1st tank, 115 litre big display tank and a small child starter 14 litre tank for raising our fry :)

Thank you for sharing some further fabulously helpful pics!

thanks Kirsty. The reason I couldn't see any fry this morning is because she hadn't had them - she's dropping them now but she's quite distressed. They are pretty big fry and I think she's struggling. I'm keeping an eye on her and hoping she survives the birth. The blooming male is following her around like a rabid dog just waiting to mate with her again!!

I've got the camara by the tank. If she stops still long enough and I'm able to catch a fry 'coming out' I'll post a picture of that too

:)
