this is the first silver shark i had he is beautiful,im sure you will agree, unfortynatley i was new at fish keeping when i got him and my lfs didnt think to tell me that they are better off with 2 or 3 others,i got that very valuable advice on here,
due to my mistakes, i couldnt have got him any friends till today, but boy i wish i could have, the change in him is instant,he is bigger(6 inch) than the new ones but im sure hes just thinking " whos the daddy"
in there(4ft tank) with them are 1 male betta,3 guppies ( no they dont fight or nip)
think thats about it for this tank now, but i would love to hear your suggestions on plants, as since i turned it all out, i have left it very sparce, with few hidy places (needing more or not??)

I HOPE YOU LIKE THE PICS, AND FEEDBACK IS ALWAYS WELCOME, THANX FOR LOOKING X

Love the sharks! My betta also lives with 3 gupppies and they have never even tried to nip at him. Which makes me happy! Can you give us a pic of your whole tank so we can see the layout with the plants you now have?

not up to much is it,it looked beautiful before but i had that horrible goldfish rainbow gravel in there, im sure my fish will thank me in the end when its all sorted

this is how it looked before the swap (below) other fish have been split between 2 other tanks, as the betta hated the wags

i would love to hear your suggestions on plants
Well the plant's on the right hand side of the tank are non-aquatic dracancea, I'd suggest putting them in a pot on your windowsill before they rot :). Other than that, nice clean tank.

Plant wise I would add a couple of lily's from greenline, I got the bulbs and they grow very fast and look great. Some floating plants other floating plants like frogbit would be good too (they are great for lowering nitrate).

Then some mossballs and Anubias (make sure you plant the rhizome above the gravel) would look great, with the actually Anubias growing very well in the subdued light provided by the floating plants and lily's.
You could also tie some java moss to the rocks in your tank :).

As you can probably tell..I like the natural 'jungle' look  . But all those plants will either grow at the surface making the sharks feel more secure, or at the bottom, meaning the fish have more things to rummage about in but there will still be loads of mid-tank swimming space as they are. All very easy low light plants that require little if any maintenance (lily's might need cut back if they grow too muc for your taste though).

Btw, are the bala sharks going to be staying in that tank forever? Or will you be upgrading for them? ;)

Not too bad, as said, with a few more plants in there you'll have a great tank :) id also be interested to hear what you intend to do with the bala's, after seeing some around 12-14" recently ive become a little more aware of the tank size needs for healthy growth :p

Exactly what I was going to mention. Maybe I missed it, but what size is this tank? you said four foot, so is that 55, 75, or 90G? Even its a 90, that will most likely be undersized for them when full grown in a couple years. They can grow upwards of 12" easily if not more and are very energetic fish tat swim constantly (i'm sure you've noticed this). Since they need the large groups and can reach 12"+, atleast a 125, if not a 150 (both long), is neccesary for plenty of swimming room.

sorry for the delay in getting back to you,

yes i fully intend to upgrade just as soon as i can to be honest, these silver sharks are fab so it would be an abosolute plaesure to see them swimming about in a massive tank.

having some probs with the larger one at the moment he seems to eith have septicemia or is hemmoraging,( 2 diffrent opinions) i am treating as reccomened, but just now i think it would be wrong to disturb him anymore than need be.

thanks for the advice on the plants too, but same, not doing anything about it as i dont want to bother the big guy more than really ness

thanks for your replies

lol, no mine are not even nearly that size yet, but i get your point lol :hyper:

and i do fully intend to get another tank, a nice 6ft, and brand new (as all my tanks are 2nd hand - not that it matters, would just be nice )

that one is huge by the way, what does he live in???

Well, it looks like it's dead, so I doubt it LIVES in anything. :p

that one isn't fully grown, i have seen bigger.

Imagine a shoal in a 6 footer... cramped...

I ahd alot of problems with Septicimia as well with my balas. I wonder if it's a disease they are very apt to get. I just figured it was bad stock I got from my lfs as the first three big ones I had were fine, it was just the smaller 3 that I bought after to complete the shoal. I did end up losing two of the smaller new ones but luckily I got the rest treated in time to stop the disease from taking hold.

Do they have read fins, like they are filled with blood? If yes, then it is septicimia. you prob know already but just confirming. Hope they pull through :good:
