With my lfs having what can only be described as a drought Ive decided, and invested in a phytoplankton culture.

I've set it up with a grow light from Amazon.

Just wondering if any of you guys can recommend wether the grow light will be fine or I'm better off giving it a CFL bulb? I'm 1 week in and grown has been fine in the kitchen windowsill but it's cold and I'm moving it to a proper set of shelves to grow phyto, rotifiers and pods.

You can use any sort of light for growing algae. A lot of tissue culture and biology places will use rows of normal fluorescent globes. Some use LEDs, metal halides, compact fluoros, it doesn't really matter. Anything that provides bright light.

If you only have small cultures, they are more prone to crashing than larger cultures. I used 40-200 litre plastic storage containers to grow green water. Have air bubbles in each culture to circulate water and nutrients, as well as keeping oxygen levels stable.

Start new cultures regularly so when one crashes, you still have others to use.
