Here's my Tanganyikan set-up when it was new, looks a lot better now with a bit of algae!

It hasn't really faded that much. You can only tell when you get up close and see a couple of edges have faded. To be honest it might not even be faded, it could just be the light reflecting off of it. There has never been any dye or anything run out of the gravel. You just get a few very small particles suck up the vac for the first 5ish waterchanges. I'd still highly recommend the roman brand. Good luck with your purchase!!

hia, no it was the fine gravel (roma) the gravel wont really fade but it does tend to get knocked about a bit on the inital rinse .. but honsetly u wont notice.

Ccsskitten I don't think anyone is ever happy with how their tank looks, takes a while to get it "perfect".

I have decided to get the Roman Gravel in Jet Black, so watch out for pictures of my tank in the next few weeks.

Hi all

I know this is an old thread but i was thinking of getting the Roman Black gravel but was advised at my lfs to get larger gravel if i'm having a planted tank because aparently the plant roots prefer not being as compressed as they would be in smaller gravel.

What are your views on this as i'm relativly new to fish keeping and would appriciate your views before i pay for anything. If i got larger black gravel what would be a recommended brand to use that won't fade?

i would have thought that finer gravel would be better for plants, as they would find it easier to root in it?
i certainly never had any problems using very fine black gravel in my planted tank.
