I think Fiyero is trying to give me a hint or something about speeding up the schedule for his spawn  His bubblenest, which has grown quite spectacular since Boq moved in beside him, is now his one and only hobby. Whenever I look in, that's where I see him- hovering beneath the nest, watching diligently for any sign of movement; you'd swear there were actually eggs in there.

I was just wondering if anybody else's male has ever done this; sort of like a phantom pregnancy, but for male bettas. If so, were these males who had been fathers before, or were they like Fiyero, and had never actually spawned, but just seemed to think they had?!

<-- amused and curious

i dont think it matters wether or not they'v spawned before, they all have the same instint, its just ingrained in their lil brains, that female he sees is just pulling that side of him out. i aggree, they are very fun to watch :D

Boq is actually a male :look:

Oh dear- Fiyero's confused

I actually think Boq brought out the territorial side in him, which sparked the nesting. Boq (you can see him in my av) flared up quite admirably at first, but I moved Fiyero's tank away when his huge size started stressing out poor Boq. But Fiyero didn't stop nesting, and now he's playing nanny to his nest, too :p

That I do  And I'm really very grateful to know, because I was starting to think I'd have to steal a nest from one of the other boys for Fiyero to use for spawning, but now I don't think it will be necessary after all. I only hope he's this devoted when there actually ARE eggs there to tend to
