Ph Levels

ah i see and if it is left for a week or two should i see a decline in ph ?

Karl.

as long as it goes away soon and back to normal levels it will be ok, but i just want to know if i can add anything simple to help ?

Karl.

You need to confirm that it's not the sand by doing the test I suggested earlier. If it's the sand it's unlikely the pH will drop for some considerable time and you'd be better off getting a new substrate.

hey guys ive just read because i poured the water in last night is has had a sudden rush of oxygen and this boosts up the level of the ph for some reason and it will slowly reduce but i deffo will test the sand aswell :) cheers guys.

thats what the website said and i have just confirmed it over the phone with my lfs aswell :/ i had no idea about that ?

Karl.

Oh your local fish shop said it does eh, well it must be right then!

Oxygen does not affect pH, end of story.

What it can do is enable the bacteria in the filter to metabolise at a faster rate and thus produce more CO2 which will drop the pH. But the oxygen directly has no effect on pH.

:L ok maybe they dont know it all exactly off to a tee but due to the oxygen going in starting off the reaction you just explained id say tht the amount of oxygen would have started it all off :) but thank you for explaining why oxygen does this :)

Karl.

yes thoroughly :L it took from half seven last night till quater to 11 to was ten kg's :L
