hi

pH in my tropical community tank is 7.9 how do i lower it?

thanks

My friend, that pH is not high :D A high pH would be 8.8, that's saltwater :p

There is no need to lower pH, your fish are already accustomed to it. It would actually be more damaging to suddenly lower the pH, which could kill them.
I have fish from Asia, which natuarlly live in soft, acidic waters around 6. My tap is 7.8, and they don't seem to be in any distress, they've been used to it for their whole lives since I got them from a local store.

:good:

some fish would apreciate lower ph lvls
if you really need(not, want) too, you could add some drift wood, without soaking it(tannins are not always harmful, they are good for amazon fish, but they add a yellowish tint to the water)

Trying to alter pH is not to be taken lightly, you really need to know what you're doing otherwise it could swing rapidly and kill your fish. Once you start you have to keep maintaining it so best to leave it be, as crossfire says the fish are used to it so it's not an issue.
