The ph in my tropical aquarium is very low - do you think the bogwood i have in there could be causing it?

i was going to use interpet easy adjust ph up to change it as i have already lost 3 fish - does anyone know where i can the measurement info for this as i have lost the instructions

thanks

I think bogwood can lower the pH but i'm not entirley sure, be careful when using the pH adjuster, if you use it all the time then the tank relies on it or so i've heard, as for the instructions I would just go to the shop with pen and paper and note down the instructions from another packet.

Francis.

I personally wouldn't add anything chemical to change your ph levels.Just my humble opinion. :)

I would be much more comfortable knowing two things before any recommendations can be given: What is your PH, and what is the ph of your tap water?

Fish losses due to an improper ph is a longer term thing and I'm sceptical about this being the cause of the deaths. To outright kill a fish it would need to be really, really low.

There are more reliable, and cheaper, ways of raising the ph if you need to, but be sure you need to first.

Or large swings in pH can do it more quickly.

As freddyk said, knowing the pH of the tank and tap water will help. ALso, if knowing the KH would be helpful too. That is the buffering capacity of the water which lets you know how stable your pH should be.

As someone had said, bogwood will lower pH. How much depends on the KH of your water. CO2 injection can also lower it if you are using that for live plants.

Definitely don't use the pH altering chemicals. All you get with those is a VERY unstable pH which is worse for your fish that a low, stable pH.

Whatg about rid-ick meds do they make the nitrates and nitrites higher?
