i bought 3 3 spot gouramis from them about about 2 months ago 1 died the next day took it back cos of the 7 day exchange change it for 3 sucking loach 2 of them died a few weeks later, went down this morning to purchase a plastic plant looked at all their fish 5 tanks had got at least 2 dead fish in each another tank had 2 fish with whitespot another tank had about 10 ruby sharks chasing each other , another tank had about 8 clown loaches in them which were nearly pure white, a pinkish fighter in another which barely moved. The staff are young people who dont know anything when u ask them.
I definitely will not buy fish from them ever again, i now go to a reputable lfs for my fish.

Don't blame you mate. My local-ish one if Woking told me that Clown Loaches ate algae! They're water wasn't bad as I made the guy test it in front of me but there were a few dead fish in tanks and it looked like the gravel had NEVER been cleaned.

I'll be getting my fish from the peole who advised me NOT to buy them just yet but wait till my water was in better condition. This is probably the best test of all to find out who cares about the fish and who cares about the sale.

(I only buy accessories & meds at pets at home coz they're cheaper than my LFS)

they get the fish like that from their suppliers..

youd think theyd spend the extra 2 cents per fish to get them from a good supplier

Well i thought pets@home were ok. How ever i took a trip to WORLD OF WATER and omg wot a state, every tank had serious ICH saw in some tanks dead fish floating around and stuck to filter housing!!!!!!!!!!!! (been there awhile as they were well decomposed!!!! )

The poor platies and swordtails fins were so infested with ICH that they were stuck together, unable to swim etc.

The tiger barbs were nose down at an angle ( well know indication of high nitrite level!!)

Most disturbing thing of all they were still selling sick fish to the public!!!

Shame coz i saw some pretty neat cories (Corydoras Melini) False Bandit Corydoras they were £4.99 a piece mind but that was the only tank that ICH hadn't struck.

Normally W OF W is pretty good.

Seems like the stickers on the tanks would be a gret idea for this place.

"THESE FISH ARE INFECTED WITH WHITESPOT.
IF THIS IS LEFT UN-TREATED THEY WILL DIE"

He he he, I do that sometimes. :shifty:

"This fish has a fungal infection"
"Peruno Catfish get huge and will eat your cat"
"These fish have been injected with coloured inks"
"Don't believe anything the shop assistant tells you"
"These fish are hugly overpriced, they're half that price elsewhere"

I've never been caught yet!

Hey thats a great idea!!! but they can't sell sick fish to the public can they, aint there some law?

Im happy to say that my local Pets at home is prety good ! Its the cannock store in the west Midlands.

While you do see the odd dead fish now and again they are always moved by the next day. I think they have a fish guy there who knows his stuff.

The tanks get switched around regularly so they can clean them out too which is a good sign.

Only problem is they are so damn under staffed that you have to wait half hour to be served !
That and there fish sell quickly ! They had a tank full of blue female guppies which were gorgeous which had sold by the time I went back after work

putting stickers on tanks can probably get you in some trouble.. i wouldnt recommend it.. i work at a fish store, and if i caught someone doing it.. O BOY.. that would be fun..

why not stop shopping at crappy stores? i cant understand why ppl complain about stores, but continue to shop at them..

if a store is so bad.. and it bothers you so much.. just dont go there

The stickers thing sounds like a GOOD idea to me.

I might make some stickers saying

'THIS IS NOT A "NEMO" AND CANT LIVE IN A GOLDFISH BOWL'

'IF YOU DONT KNOW WHAT THIS IS YOU SHOULDNT BE BUYING IT'

'THESE FISH REQUIRE SPECIALIST CONDITIONS THAT MOST PEOPLE DONT CATER FOR'

hmmm

I was in a Pets at Home the other day and watched while they tested a customers water, and saw the nitrite test go up to 0.4, the bloke said "yes, your nitrites are at 0.4 ppm, so your water is fine"!!!
I also saw a tank with Bala Sharks in and on the label it said "very peaceful community fish that like to school" (or something like that) which is fine, except it said nothing about the fact that they get up to and over 30cm!!!!!
I learnt my lesson from them pretty early on and won't buy fish from them. I do get meds and food there as they are generally cheaper, and can't really go wrong with that can they!!
