Went to pets at home on the way home from work last night to pick some bits up, and asked a guy a question about the API dechlorinator, as it said about two different amounts to add for two different things which confused me. His reply baffled me a little.

He said, "id only use it for setting up new tanks, and wouldnt bother when doing water changes, it wont do any harm".

I said, "wont it kill off the bacteria with a 25% water change ".

He said," naa, not in small doses, you'll have enough bacteria".

So.. not many LFS would recommend that eh!

Worst advice I ever recieved was you only need melafix to treat whitespot, not anyother meds, strangely enough it didnt work (but then again neither had the treatment I had been using, which was nullified but direct sunlight [which I didnt know] which my tank happened to get about 4-5 hours a day).

So is he saying not to bother using the dechlorinator when doing a water change?

sounds noodle headed to me

worse advice i have heard is a betta is ok with guppies in a 2 foot tank  . needless to say the betta has now been donated to me as i had a spare tank & the guppies had their tails ripped to shreds.
was a friends btw

Surely it's terrible business advice as well, you'd only ever sell 1 bottle.

we have a pets at home in norwich and they are useless!!!! i would never beleive a word they say!!!!! that the best advice id give lol -_-

We have one in Leeds also and they are pretty rubbish in fact I do not think I would ever be tempted to purchase any livestock from there, the tanks are in poor condition and nobody can ever give sound advice, the only thing I'll purchase from them is my dog food

agree.. in one tank alone there was 2 dead fish.. different types... and one being eaten in another!

but i dont understand, they look after all their other animals really well, but when it comes to fish its hopeless. i got my chinchilla from our local one and hes fine, full of life (dont i know it, now at mating season and keeps calling for a mate, really annoying!!!!!!!!!)

they dont see fish as proper pets, thats probably why. There is no excuse for having dead fish floating in a tank.

overstocking one said to me its would be ok to put 3 common pleaco & 4 clowns not forgetting the 30 neans i have in there in a 25 g tank & we did ( ok that was a few year ago i know better now !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

I was told by a cruddy place near london a fluval 1 would be ok for my 200L and i could have around 35 cichlids in there "as they only get 2 1/2 inches big" apparantly. I walked out. My LFS i pritty good.

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one that found them to look after all other pets (ones that retail quickly) but neglect the fish!

Wonder if there is anything we could do..... I've been tempted to send them a stinking letter before today but didnt think it would do any good yet alone get a response from them
