so ever since i joined this forum i have become very educated on my fish i have in my tanks which im still learning new stuff (thanks to this forum, it is very helpful :)) well i have helped my twins girlfriend out with her fish when she has questions bout it as much as possible based of the information i have learned from here well today she asked

"since you have bettas Hannah i thought i would ask you, would a 1 gallon tank be ok to have up at my dorm right to keep a betta in right?"

a thought ran through my head, your freakin insane to keep a betta in a 1 gallon i should slap you whoever gave you that idea, but being the good person i am i gave her some advice in the nicest way possible what the correct tank size she would have to get but im affraid she is going to be one of those people who cram a betta in a 1 gallon tank and i would end up rescuing it -_-

i know i put my first betta in a 3 gallon but that was only temporary and i plan on getting a 10 gallon for my male this summer, so mine is all temporary till i can provide the right living space

true i had hardly info mation when i got my first betta he died in less than a month now i have more info and am learning more things this one will last

It's possible if done correctly. The problem is the correct way of doing it is rarely given.

Betta's are marketed in terrible ways...EVERYWHERE! It's so sad. I used to keep a betta in a vase and my only consolation is that I kept a plant on top and he loved the roots...oh and I didn't overfeed him. :( I had no idea that they need a heater. I didn't know that bettas are tropical fish, or that they like veggies or bloodworms. It makes me so upset now when I see them in their little cups.

I have a betta right now in a 3.5 gallon tank. I would love to have a much larger tank for him but since he'a a bully, I can't put him anywhere else..but he's got a heater, a filter, lovely live plants, and a variety of food, unlike any Betta I've ever had. He will live a wonderful life in his 3.5g. I would never put them in anything less. :p

I'm glad for this forum, and for my betta because after getting him, I was addicted to fishkeeping :p

Show breeders commonly keep bettas in gallon jars. These are the folks you can gain the most knowledge from. Done correctly it isn't a problem. Any tank done incorrectly regardless of size is.

Ya I agree they can live happily in like a 3 gallon with a heater and filter, but she can't even take good care of her guppies she is lazy bout cleaning them, she is only getting one cus I have some, I told her a five gallon because I don't want to see the poor thing suffer and I know she won't take care of it her or her room mate

My friends wanted some of my Betta fry I asked them to start their cycle I said they need to do this before as they will be young and even more sensitive towards the ammonia and nitrites ( considering they killed 6 platies I gave them in two weeks) so I was in belief that they had their cycle started but they told 2 other friends as they started discussing it with them and they said they where gonna just put them in normal tap water they would be fine my friend had a major go at them ( he said he knew how much effort I've put in to rearing and breeding them) I still need to tell them and confront them about it god some people :(
