I'll be going to brighton for the day sometime in january, if I find some nice sized stones/pebbles can I put em in my tank?

Cheers :)

It really depends on what type stones they are. Some rocks such as limestone, will severely raise your pH. Any stones from near the ocean could possibly contain salt that could also raise the pH. You would definitely need to boil them well to kill any potential bacteria on them but once again, the key is the type rock and whether it will have an effect on your pH, GH & KH.

great song by Paul Weller has just started going through my head when I saw the title of your post

yeh, no problem at all, avoid anything with red/rust stains. apart from that its all good. Granite and slate can be washed and soaked for a short while in boiling water and should be fine. lime/sandstone need a better soak, as they are porous. dependent on the amount they "may" affect your hardness and ph, if they crumble too easily i would avoid them. i note you state pebbles, these by definition, are amongst the hardest of rocks on the beach. as such, some of the safest you can use in your aquarium!
