Allright, i love pearl gouramis and im
wondering if this would be a good tank setup.
i have a penguin bio wheel 350 on a 55 gallon tank.
i was going to decorate the tank heavily with natural colored
plastic plants. i tried live, and since im a beginner, it didnt
work out for me that well  i also have 1 pleco and 9 neon tetras.
i also have a good functioning under gravel filter. There are some
darker places in the tank, and a few caves lower in the tank if they really wanted to hide. :good:
would this be a good setup?? -_-

I'd add some easy-to-keep floating plants like frogbit, or floating pennywort. The gouramis would love it.

Other than that, seems fine. I'd get one male and 2 - 3 females.

thanks alot
i do already have some duckweed floating on the top.
would it also work to by a plastic plant that is really tall so it would float over the top creating shade? :)

Sure. Live plants are good for the water, though. :)

i know, but i tried live and my tank totally bombed clouded with co2, so im going back to the basics, and getting some good ol gouramis and staying with plastic!

again i would reccomend live plants, i just got mine when i started my tank a few months back and forgot about them, the only maintainence they need is a trim every now and again.

Need to remember pearl gouramis dont like moving water either.

I'm not sure if its just my pearl grouami or if there are others like it too, but when i first got it, i went to great efforts to create shady areas and caves, but all my gourami likes doing is swimming about in the open water where the light is at its brightest!

They are very friendly creatures, mine comes up and nibbles my hand when ever its in the tank and also comes to the front of the tank when ever he sees anyone else in the room

well, ive tried live, with co2 and everything, and almost every single one died! i still have a few live plants. i have an anubias, som tiger lotus, and a few sagitteria. when i put in the under gravel filter i tried to stay away from high power stuff. i have some water movement, and i think moving water helps keep everything moving around and doesnt let the water get stanant
