Hello,

I was wondering if anyone had experience with keeping a trio of pearl gourami in a community with cherry barbs and white cloud mountain minnow. Right now only the 8 wcmm and a few pieces of vallisneria are in my 55 Gallon. I plan on adding more plants and then 8 cherry barbs. Would a trio of pearl gourami (m/f/f)  be alright in this sort of community? If I get them they would be added last. The person working the fish section of the pet store said pearl were too aggressive and to go with honey instead, but a lot of the fish profiles online contradict this advice. I've never kept gourami and have been reading about them and would like to hear thoughts or suggestion.

Firstly let me say great choice in going for the gourami. Fantastic fish with great personalilties!

Now back to the subject - I keep a trio of Pearls (M/F/F) and have no issues whatsoever. They are kept in my community tank with Opaline Gourami, Dwarf Gourami, Angelfish, Odessa Barbs, Plecos and Paradise Fish - No issues whatever - infact, I would say the Pearl gourami are one of the quieter less dominant of the large gourami. Just sit and watch my tank and the opalines are definitely more active and give chase.

Paradise fish with gouramis, and no issues? Blimey, etka, you're lucky.

Bee, I don't see anything wrong with Pearls and Cherry Barbs, I have a Dwarf Gourami with Cherry Barbs, and no problem. My only thing is that WCMMs like water that is significantly cooler and faster flowing than Pearl Gourami.

Thanks Metka, gourami seem like pretty interesting characters and like they steal the show in community tanks.

I forgot about temperature I was too focused on temperament. You're right the_lock_man.
Pearl are out then since it would be too cold.

In my tank the only fast flow of water is where a Tetra Whisper EX70 sits near the right end. The water becomes less rapid on the left hand side.
So how about a trio of honey gourami?
On wikipedia it says wcmm can live in waters ranging 18-26 C and honey gourami can live in 22-28 C, so if I set a heater to 22 C would that work?
