would this work? i really like both of these fish-they are from different lakes but are the same size and both not very aggressive. ph at 8.2-could it work-has anyone kept these species together?

From my experiences, yes. I have three gold comps. that are about 2 inches each and three red shoulder peacocks at about 3 inches and they seem to do really good together. The Altolamps, I have to admit, can stand up for themselves and has a great defensive techinique. They have hard spiny scales so when my peacocks go near them, they turn to their side and let them take a bite out of them. Which the peacocks won't do. But that's from myexperience though.

for a short period of time i have both a calvus black and some peacocks together.. they were fine

The peacocks tended to like the open water of the tank and the calvus liked to stay near the rockwork..

I think that you would be ok to mix the two species, the hardest thing would to get their specific deitry requirements sorted out, ie the calvus is predatorial and requires a high protein diet, whilst the peacocks i think require a more algae based, low protein diet.

Good luck if you pursue this, it could be a cracking tank to watch :good:
