Peacock, Datnoids, Nandus Nandus Feeding Vid

The comment about people using feeder fish being lazy i totally stand by. It is usually because the fish appears not to eat frozen or dried food and the owner does not try hard enough to get the fish to eat other foods. There are many ways you can entice fish to start feeding on frozen or dried foods, by using mixers such as garlic esscense to entice the fish to the food or by simply persevering and trying different foods.

I bought some needle fish a few months back and was told by the store that I had to feed them live fish (to my dis-taste). I got them home and fed them each one lamp-eye. The next day i tried diced bits of white bait, they are now feeding on this, prawns, cockle and mussel.

Thats the first and the last time I will ever use a feeder fish as I could see that even for a supposidly difficult to feed fish such as this you can get them to feed on frozen foods. The foods i use for my predatory fish are all used for human consumption and I am not advocating unecessary death of aquatic life by using them. If i could get every fish I own to feed on just dried food and recieve the required levels of nutrition without any cost to any animal then I would but this is highly unlikely as even dried foods have fish content etc.

If you do want to use feeder fish I suggest you buy a pair of cichlids such as kribensis or convicts and use the fry off those if you really have to use feeders. Goldfish just aren't nutritious feeders.

As for god given right, please don't try to throw a religious arguement into this thread,

Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."

It says rule over, if you are a good ruler you will look after your stock, your people and anything else you have command over. This includes fish, so if you are ruler of the fishes, i suggest you look after them well rather than feeding them to other predatory fish. In Ecclesiastes 9:12 it refers to fish being caught in a "cruel" net. Should you not interpret this as meaning that it is cruel to catch fish with a net as you are doing in the video? But not being a religious man myself I am not going to preach or judge you.

...would it make a difference if he killed the feeder fish first before dropping it in the tank?
If he humanely killed the fish before hand he may get a little softer response from people, but from the video I watched the fish was humanely killed. The fish was swallowed whole, not torn apart, the fish had a quick relatively painless death.

I do not know why people try to force their ideas of live food feeding onto other people. If they were to take the time to politely express the opinion towards live foods they may get a more positive response from the opposing party. I am not saying do not express your opinion on the subject, just do not do it in such a way that the opposing party will feel offended or belittled.

I own many predatory fish including piranhas, I choose not to use feeder fish. I feel as though it is easier to and just as nutritious to feed frozen fish such as silversides. It serves no purpose to feed a captive fish live goldies unless you HAVE to IE leaf-fish. In captivity animals loose most of their predatory instincts and thus accpet non living foods.

just bare in mind, swollowed whole doesnt mean painless, it means partially crushed then digested in the fish's stomache usually still alive.

I am not forcing my ideas on anyone, I am just freely expressing my opinion, as it is his to state that using live feeder fish is ok. I'm not going to forcibly stop him.

How does this imply to feeding goldfish to bass? lol

Btw my fish(oscars, jack dempseys) eat goldfish weekly. They eat them live 20 at a time.
Got no problem with that. Just you used the wrong verse. It does not say we are allowed to kill feed goldfish to oscars.

Also im an Atheist -born again- raised as a catholic for 20 years.

Well the quote Gen 1:26, it implys that we were given authority over all animals and so we can choose what to do with them. so I'm saying if I want to use gold fish as feeders, I can because I was given the authority.

Well thanks for all the replys and everything. I really apprecate it.

oh yeah bunjiweb, funny thing. I did get him to eat freeze dried krill but to be honest, It would take a lot of krill to fill him up. The reason why I use Gold fish is because it fills him up faster. I would prefer frozen food but there just isn't anything that would fill the p-bass. So I'm just going to use live bait.

No, it does not mean I'm more lazy then he is

If Jesus had a fish tank, I think he would of had an asian arowana. For they're bold colors

well we can agree on one thing, the peacock bass rocks.

well no hard feelings everyone.

ok so we are giving the authority. i get that part. but does it give us the authority to sin? exp. if i tourtured a dog to death by not feeding it, or feeding feeding one fish to another would that be ok? and it is not natural to feed a traped fish another prisoner. natural would be "of or relating to nature", not a fish tank in your living room.

oh, and on the lazy issue....

to feed frozen:
1. goto fishstore and buy frozen, bring home and freeze.
2. at feeding time take out and thaw, server w/ water.
3. repeat as nessisary. usually once a month.

to feed live:

1. goto fish store buy a weeks worth of food.
2. setup quarentene tank and depostite feeders.
3. wait a month for desases to apear.
4. if deseases appear discard fish, clean tank and start over, if not proceed to step 5.
5. catch and deposit into preditor tank.
6. get tyred of this process and try to breed you own.
7. repeat steps 1 - 5, but instead set up an outdoor pond for livebearers.
8. fail miserabley 2-5 times or until you find out oak pollin during the spring kills fish.
9. wait 4-5 months for fish to multiply to sufficeint number to take a few out every week.
10. have i proved my point? or just go back to the fish store every week. it gives you the chance to buy new fish and tanks also!
11. if you wish repeat steps 1-5 without step 6.

im not trying to start an argument, just jumping in the one you all have going on. :)

all the fish that are being fed live food hear are the easyest types of fish to get on to dead and will all take dead food in less than 2 weeks

my point hear is dats grow much much slower than p.bass and all the p.bass knows now is to eat live fish that fit in its mouth so trust me on this one as soon as the p.bass thinks it can eat the dat it will

in 1 year the dat may grow 3inch if you are lucky the p.bass will be 12inch+ in that time so the choice is yours stop the live feeders or the dat will be history

i dont care if you use feeders or not its no big deal to me and i dont think their is a god either or he would have given me a bigger tank :D

they look like nice dats too shame if they become dinner.i can understand using feeders if you have no other choice.i have

Well it would have been nice to have told what the video actually entaled! because if i had known i wouldnt have watched it thankyou very much!!!!!

Dont use gold fish, try and use some other feeders. Gold fish are really not too healthy for the fish, you should use convict cichlids or bullhead minnows, just not gold fish. I really dont like gold fish as a pet either. They are worthless in my opinion.

i pick oscar101(i have to show him what to do on here) up some small fatheads or even a sucker for his oscar at a fishing shop.or ill trap my own and pick through

Im not even sure why we are argueing this. If the man wants to feed his fish with life food whats the problem with it? Its not cruel, its not harmful to his fish, and i guarantee you those fish feel alot less than the fish that are ground into flake food and pellets do. All opinions aside i think its childish to argue this point because its based completely on personal opinion, not facts.

By the way, im against live feeding, but i respect ever fish keeper's right to do so.
