so our parrot fish is not swimming and we dont know whats wrong....
so if you could tell us about this fish, please do!
ps- the old owner cleaned his tank out with dawn dish soap

How long have you had him, how long have you had the tank, what are the water stats for the tank, ammonia, nitrIte, ph, nitrAte?

Is he eating? Have you seen him poo, if so, what colour is it? Any other fish in the tank and how big is the tank?

we dont know what the stats of the tank are..... hes been passed down from person to person.
no we havent seen him eat or poo, no other fish are with him.... but hes in a 5 gallon tank

You have got to be kidding or you have your sizes mixed up. Please measure the tank and give us L x W x H please?

When was the last time you changed the water, do you use dechlorinator and how long have you had him?

I think the main problem is the tank size if it is 5g you need to get him out of there, the cramped conditions could very easily be causing the stress do you have a larger tank he could move too? At the moment the stress could open him up to any form of disease including white spot and due to the rotundness of them its a bit like goldfish where they create all kinds of pollutants really easily so the water quality could be dropping drastically and again causing to much stress. Realistically parrots need about a 45-55g tank.
