Yesterday my 2 paradise gouramis bred in my 10 gallon tank. I wasn't really planning on breeding them or anything since I don't know about them. But today I noticed about 0ver 200 little babies floating around the bubbles and the nest if huge! It covered half of the tank's surface. And I don't know what to feed the little fries. I did some research and I am sopose to take out the male on the 3rd day so I will wait for 2 more days until I take him out. My tank is at 80 degrees. is that an ok temp for the babies? I hope I get some help soon! I want those babies to survive or that would be lots of lives lost. It's spatacular though. I wish I could get some pics but I don't have a scanner. :X .

I used liquifry food from my lfs. The babes really are very small and at a pinch the best thing to get them. BBS is also good and some places now sell it in frozen blister packs. Well worth getting that too.
Best of luck with your youngsters.
Hugs,
P.

Thanks I will have to stop by to get some then. Do I put the food on top of the bubbles? Or should I wait till I move the dad.?

You shoudl remove the female right now, if she's still in there.

The male has to be removed as soon as the fry are free-swimming. Whether this happens exactly within 3 days or not varies greatly. I'd actualy expect it to take a little less (ie: 2 days :p).

Once you've removed him, and the fry are free-swimming, there will be no bubblenest full of babies to worry about. You just put the food in the water and the fry will get it. :)

The temperature is fine.

Good luck with them!

edit:
BTW, yes, you should wait to add food until after the fry are free-swimming. before then, they won't eat. They are still absorbing the 'yolk' they were born with.

Yes the mom was removed after the spawning took place. And it's day 2 and the babies are still around the bubble nest. The nest is HUGE. It;s about to cover the whole surface of the 10 gallon. :S
Thanks for your help though. Even though my Rams' spawning wasn't successful, I still got a handful top take care of from my Paradise Gouramis :D

Yes you can but it's extremely messy. It's a good idea to have a light colored bucket around so that you can syphon the tank. If you suck up any babies, you'll be able to see them and put them back in if the bucket's a light color ;) This way, you can do as many water changes as you like so using messy foods is less of a problem. I'd still reccomend getting hold of some commercial liquid foods though.

oh thanks! sorry for the late reply. And they are doing good with the liquid food I bought and now I am hatching brine shirmp for them.

Paradise gourami and paradisefish are just two of the common names given to the species macropodus opercularis :)
