ok, so as i've posted in chit-chat, i'm looking at restocking my tank. now that i've thought about it though, i really don't have a place to move my paradise fish to and i don't want to get rid of it. but at the same time, i've been drooling over these Trichopsis schalleri i've found for sale.

is there any way i could have both species in my tank at the same time? the paradise completely ignores the guppies/dwarf platies i have in the 60g, but would the introduction of a group of other anabatoids be too much?

i actually asked about this a few weeks ago concerning blue paradise fish (1 male and 1 female) with sparkling gouramis (close to croacking gouramis) in my community tank....nobody seemed to know...i bought 3 sparkling gouramis over a month ago now and everything has been just fine - the paradise fish seem to not even notice them (this is in a 46 gallon)...i will be getting 3 more when i go to the lfs next as they are so fun to watch..

however, my concern would be the fact that croaking gouramis get a little bigger than sparkling gouramis (2.5-3")....i DONT think there would be any issues honestly though, but if you can find sparkling gouramis i would def. recommend them as they stay smaller in general...

hope that helps a little!

quick EDIT: you'll have the best luck with a lot of floating plants, but i really don't think you'd run into problems in that large of tank..i guess in the long run it all depends on the temperment of the pardise fish..

yeah, i've probably got ten feet of hornwort floating aroun in there  thanks for your input! i'm starting to feel like spending some money... :hey:

It should be fine in that size tank but watch closely - particularly if the paradisefish is a male.

if i had a choice between the croaking gouramis and the sparkling gouramis, which do you think would do better in my tank?

planted 60 gal
-- 1 Kribensis Male [01/05]
--30 Kribensis Fry [06/05]
-- 1 Otocinclus [01/04]
-- 5 Dwarf Sunset Platies [04/05]
-- 4 Buenos Aires Tetras [04/05]
-- 1 Columbian Blue Tetra [04/05]
-- 1 Paradise Fish [04/05]
-- 3 L-200 plecos [04/05]
--12 Guppies (pop. subject to change)

i think it is really up to your preference at this point...they are both great fish - the sparkling gouramis just staying quite a bit smaller - you're moderately stocked now so either would work...i would go with either 3 croakers or 6+ sparkling gouramis (with my preference being towards the sparkling, although i have never kept croaking gouramis - based on looks and what i've read, the sparkling gouramis get great coloration with the proper diet - they both will get a sparkling gem-like blue to their eyes...)...let's see some pics once you get them!
