A while ago i had the chance of buying a dovii about 6 months ago, doing this meant i had to remove and exchange all my discuss ive had for cold hard cash, and i tell you what, this is the best idea ive ever had!. I've tried to introduce several other fish to my tanks including oscars, firemouths and daemon cichlids, each and every one where subsequently annihilated by this predatory murder machine[please note i removed all the fish when things went tits up, none died]. Even though i am unable to introduce any new fish to my 5 foot tank, im as happy as can be, there highly intelligent, more so than any oscars ive kept, and the way they get excited for food is like watching a puppy lol. Though its not all bad, some fish like my shovel nose were simply to big for him to abuse from day one and as he has sort of gotten older hes come to accept there presence and weirdly enough doesnt hassle them. I know this sounds insane, but he also lives quite happily with my red marlboro Little Eastwood. Though thats probably one to be watched for the future.

Anyway, i suggest you all buy one quick sharp and enjoy natures rather creative slant on murder!

Cheers.

Suggesting everyone go and buy a dovii is abit irresponsible, they may be great fish but they need great tanks to care for them. Frankly I think adding fish to a dovii tank (other than a partner) is a no go, unless have a tank that you can do laps in. Putting fish in a too small tank with a fish like a dovii is just cruel in my books, you may have removed them before they got seriously hurt but theres still the stress of being chased and the other damage that has been done.

Although your 5ft tank may seem big, a adult dovii will dwarf that tank, you will need an upgrade soon. It may sound like I'm going on but I'm just saying what I think is best for the fish. (The shovelnose is another point, I'm guessing you mean tiger shovel nose, in which case 5ft is nowhere near enough).

Ummm my tanks 5 and a half foot by three foot and 3 foot high, that is ample for a dovii, the sizes these fish reach in the wild far exceed the size they do in an aquarium, especially from a genetic line bred in aquariums . And no its a lima. Thing is though matey wolfs are pretty rare here, they dont appear very often for sale and its just interesting to see how they adapt to other fish, although there is a general behavioral pattern most fish fit, it is just that, very general. I've kept oscars that will bully fish twice there size and eat anything that moves to fast, but then ive had full sized oscars that happily co exist with a plethora of fish less than half there size, every fish has a different personality.

What surprised me about the wolf though, it didnt just dominate new fish to the point of setting its own territorial boundaries, it simply just f***d over any fish i tried putting in, to the point if they were not removed they would have been killed in a matter of minutes. Which to be honest is something i think should be respected and awed, thats why i recommended everyone should have one, though obviously i wasnt expecting people to put them in a goldfish bowl, thats just insane.

I will admit though, i do feed my wolf many live fish, simple because its good for them and well, its an amazing thing watching these machines hunt, just the way they go about it, they edge closer to there prey little by little like a cat, stopping and starting untill there in striking distance, its an awesome thing to be able to watch everyday. And i know some people have some rather fallacious moral views on that, but i also have a Harris Hawk, i often take that out and it exterminates every living thing it can find. Its just the way it is.

Cheers.

I wasn't argueing with you, just you left some points abit vague. The vast majority of 5ft tanks will not be 3ft wide.

I still however don't agree with your reasoning why doviis are good fish (being super aggressive), some people do like this and as long as it doesn't harm other fish then I have no problem with it. I like dovii's due to their looks and wet pet nature, not because they can pretty much kill any other fish. I think we can both agree dovii's are good fish, but for quite different reasons.

you know you need a way bigger tank right??? so wait you added firemouths, which get no where near as big as a dovii, oscars which really arent all that aggressive, and daemon...you mean the very doscile satanoperca that should never be kept with large aggressive fish?? dosnt sound very responsible to me. you should have known the outcome before you put those fish in with a dovii in a tank that is only 5' long. yeah everyone go by a dovii for your 55g tank. while your at it, add a redtail cat, a silver aro, and an arapaima. dont suggest this fish to just anyone. it is a disaster waiting to happen.

Its all good shroob mate, agreed, dovii's are awesome.

Sorry andyourblood, i dont need a bigger tank, simple as that. There is a massive difference between practically wild 50+ cm wolfs and those bred in captivity, same with all fish. Ive had this dovii for six months, its nowhere near full size, and the firemouth was roughly the same size. Did you think i just threw all these full sized fish together in my tank hoping to see what would happen for a laugh?. Also, in my experience Oscars can be either pretty friendly and inquisitive to other fish or downright evil, to say they arent a aggressive at all is pretty misleading, Oscars are capable of some pretty extreme damage to other fish and even peaceful oscars can snap every now and then. As for the daemon, meh, in my original post i did state my wolf is in there quite happily with a discuss, a Red Marlboro to be precise, the wolf doesn't even take notice of it. That will probably change over time, but shows you to what extent you can mix fish at this size. So logicaly why wouldnt i add other fish?. My post really was just to celebrate the aggressive particulars of my new fish in how it dealt with new additions to a tank, simple as that.

However as i said, fish can vary radicaly from other fish of the same species, its all very well reading someones information about them on some random website and proclaiming this is definitely how all those fish must be. No. Thats how those paticular fish that person experienced were, not how they all are. So how different fish will react with other fish is pretty much anyones guess.

Why not?, they are excellent fish. There are literally hundreds of videos of people with wolfs, jaguars and oscars, dempsesy all living quite happily[ish] together. Not everyone has a 55gallon tank you know.

Anyway cheers for your imput buddy.
