how do u guys feel about these poor little guys being injected with color...and then they eventually get diseases and extremely sick and die...and if they live...there color fades and owners do terrible things to get rid of them because there natural color is not desired...i think it is aweful...so a bunch of my friends and me have boycotted petstores that sell them...i noticed that one of my local pet stores has stopped getting them since we started it...so we are very happy about that...what does everybody else think?

No one likes them but unfortunately, it's hard to find a store that doesn't sell them. I have 10 fish stores near me and all but 2 of them sell painted fish. Guess which 2 those are.....Petsmart. All of the true LFS sell them.

i think its terrible and its a practice that should stop...i mean the colors are crazy on these fish...but its wrong...but eveeeeryone seems to think fish dont feel pain...ive tried to tell everyone i meet that loves fish or is thinking about fish not to buy them...so someone should definitly pin a warning somewhere in the forums about these fish so newbies DO NOT buy them...thanks for the reply!

in my first tank i bought three of them, (mistake) but they lived long and happy and i actually liked their original color. (clear) so i kept them in a good home away from torment. so in a way, i saved them. (i guess) :dunno:

i think fish that u can see through are very like the catfish that u can pretty much see everything in his body...and that is awesome that u provided tham a good home..but i have heard gruesome stories of owners hating that the color faded and chuckt hem to there turtle or something..its very sad...

I refuse to order painted fish in mys tore. Luckily I am the one in charge of orders, because others have requested that I order the painted fish, but I can not.
Really I don't see why anyone, besides kids 10 years and under, would want a painted fish anyways. They look ridiculous. Neon colors are annoying as it is, I don't need a rosy barb thats been dyed the color of a road cone.

that is really great...u own a store...and its probably not in mass right? because u would def get my business

Sorry to be misleading phoenix. I wish I owned an lfs, but I do not have the knowledge. Maybe someday. For right now I work in an lfs and I was fortunate to be able to learn and be given the responsibilities of taking care of the aquatic life. I just refer to it as "my store" because I'm too lazy to type out "the lfs that I work at." (but not so lazy as to not take care of the fish)

(Edit: spelling error)

o0o im sorry! yes i to would love to own my own store...but i see what u mean now! beautiful dog in your picture by the way

Wshen I'm in college, or maybe sooner I'm going to work at petco. Thats where my true loyalty lyes...

if i owned a lfs, then i would order those painted glass fish, but only to sell to people that know what they are doing with them, since you cant reverse what they have already been changed into you might as well take care of them. but if you didnt order them, then i just think that those fish would be destined to die a painful death. which is MEAN.. :dunno:

no where near me sells these fish, but last time i went home (to dubai) i was in the local supermarket (as in the one where all the local arabs go) they were selling these fish, i felt so sad for them, they also had siamese fighters in the tiniest of tanks, it was awful

unfortuneatly they don't have the same stringent animal rights laws over there.. although having said that we still have dyed fish here too.

i would NEVER buy one.. and i think that it is a really good idea that there be a pinned thread warning ppl against buying these fish.. maybe we could eradicate the selling of these fish altogether! ;)

I bought two painted glass BEFORE I knew how they got their color. Now that I am aware of what people do to them I will not be buting any more. I still have one in my tank that is very clear and seems to be very happy. It's almost like having an invisible man in my house. I do have a question though. I also bought a yellow parrot ciclid BEFORE I knew how they got their color. He has gotten a lot lighter and is in great shape. Today I notided that he seems to have a small black patch on his dorsal fin and a small black area above his mouth. It does,'t look cottony or stringy, just dark. Is this just his natural color returning or does it sound like something that I should be concerned about? I have had him about two months now. Vince :dunno:

Obviously I'm against them. But if a lfs had some sent to them by accident, I'd take them to give them somewhere clean and healthy to return to natural colours and advoid them going to someone who has no idea on the stress on their immune system :dunno:
