painted glass fish

what kind of fish are they to start out with just glass fish and how much are they cause it sounds pricy since they have to inject every one

Actually one of the reasons I have got another tank is so I can have some glass fish in their original colour. I think they are totally awesome and can't see why on earth anyone would want to alter something so exceptionally unusual. I think all the finest colours are found in natures paint box, those we make may try and mimic her but she is ther true "Master" (or Mistress I guess lol).

no where near me sells these fish, but last time i went home (to dubai) i was in the local supermarket (as in the one where all the local arabs go) they were selling these fish, i felt so sad for them, they also had siamese fighters in the tiniest of tanks, it was awful

unfortuneatly they don't have the same stringent animal rights laws over there.. although having said that we still have dyed fish here too.

i would NEVER buy one.. and i think that it is a really good idea that there be a pinned thread warning ppl against buying these fish.. maybe we could eradicate the selling of these fish altogether! ;)

I have never seen it before must have good lfs near me, would probobly play on my mind if i bought one, suppose it would be like bleeching your skin, or kids drinking sunny delight and turning yellow!

You know what I can't stand is to see oscars dyed purple or some horrid color!!!Poor babies!!I have to oscars and I would so break some ones arm off if they tried to inject my little sweeties with nasty coloring!!!!

You know whats weird...my painted white-skirted tetras are over 2 years old and have not lost their blue coloring, they have never gotten sick, and they are one of the hardiest fish I've ever owned. I just thought that was strange, I thought they would have died by now, or atleast lost their color. Of course I didn't know about the dying practice when I bought them...

wow id idnt know they colored oscars that is completely ridiculous!!...and about that parrot fish...i didnt know they colored those either...but i dont think they do...maybe someone who knows better can answer for you...but what a lot of people dont realize
is that the needle the workers use to inject these fish is NOT cleaned and goes from fish to fish to fish etc....how clean and safe do u think that is...lol not to sound like im slamming anybody...its just i REALLY hate this whole thing...its terrible...thats why many of the fish get sick is not because of the coloring its because of the diseases carried on that needle from fish to fish...and just like a human being the color can react against the fish

Firebelle_uk you are abso. right...the fish in their normal state are extremely cool just like the catfish...you dont see them coloring them..and please dont tell me they do!!

the fish are gust regular glass fish..and they are not at all pricy but are sold rather cheaplyxamdarb

vincebeach i would be concerened about fungus and should address that question in the emergency section

Mickslack it isnt at all like that...its like sticking a needle into your skin all over your body to achice the brightest neon colors ever...lol imagine how awkward the fish feel being the brighest unnatural fish!

Ha walmart i have enver shopped there for any live fish...i do shop there for equipment and food but other than that i refuse...but there water is actully very clean at my local walmart and the fish seem very happy...but then at the other walmart ...the water is the most disgusting thing u will ever see....i think it varies from walmart to walmart...maybe someone will agree?

I bought two painted tetras about 9 months ago, and had no idea that they were injected. One died about 2 months after I got him, and the other is still going strong. His color has faded a little bit, and I'm really glad, b/c I hate when people see him and say oh his colors are so awesome!! Then I have to tell them the horror story and they just can't believe it. After I realized they were painted I went back to the store, and talked to the manager. This got me nowhere and she said she didn't know they were injected, but that she would still be ordering more in b/c they were selling like crazy. I told her she could sell as many as she wanted, but she'd never sell another fish or supply to me. It's very cruel, but there really is nothing that can be done to stop it. Some people just don't care about the lives of fish.

and like i said...everyone thinks fish dont feel pain which is why no one cares..and that story doesnt surprise me

I don't boycott the petstore I go to, I talked to them. Most of them are fish fanatics (that is why half of the petstore is completely fish stuff! You should see it! They'll put fish stuff with random places!) They wish they didn't get Painted Glassfish, but whenever they ordered non-painted glassfish, they always get painted. They might stop getting them completely if this keeps happening.

i am very proud to say that the lfs near my house in plymouth, actaully have a poster by the cash register and one on the front door saying they don't sell painted fish, and something along the lines of not supporting this cruel trend!!

It's all about supply and demand. If there wer no demand, there would be no supply.

DON'T buy them because you're sorry for them, it's not going to work long term as you've actually added to the demand inadvertently.
