Painted Fish

I've noticed you guys hate painted fish but I don't see whats so bad. Is it the way they dye them?

Lets say we have 1000 fish that we must have dyed. :(

The process in which they dye the fish kills 80 percent of them b4 they even get to the pet store.

So only 200 actually make it to sale. :(

Of those 200 they have been stressed so much they probably wont make it pass a month in your tank. (That is just the dying process + the regular stress of transport, acclimation) :sly: Lets call that 20% (not sure on this particular percentage)

So that leaves you with 160 or so fish from 1000  , that have survived. And with all the bullsh*t they put fish through in 3 month they are back to the pre dyed colour anyway.

So what is the point?

And they remove the fish's protective slime coating to do it, and they place the fish in an irritant bath in a pathetic attempt to regrow their slime coating.

Oh and rupp you stole my icon lol. :p Would you mind changing it to something different please? It's kinda like my "identifying feature" If it isn't too much trouble. Although As soon as I get a digi-cam I'll have a new personalized one, but till then... Please?..

Why torture a fish, just to make the *ugly* color last for a few months? It would still be wrong to do even if it were permanent though. People get tattoos because they want them, fish cant prevent getting dyed

Nah, why would I change my icon, its my identifying feature, if it wouldn't be so much trouble, would you change your own icon, and you could have whatever identifying feature you want

Oh and everyone else, thank you for the information.

Nah, I'll keep mine, thanks for the offer, I kinda like it. If you don't wanna change it that's ok, you don't have to, it was just a thought. It's kinda confusing when I see your posts and go "whoa, wait a second, I didn't write that!" :p

Put it this way rupp, its like grabbing your dog then dipping it in acid for remove its skin then dipping it into fluro paint. I dont think it would like it very much now would he.
Also wouldnt you prefer a pure fish rather than some fake thing that goes damn ugly after the paint goes away?

They're pretty damn ugly after they get dyed even before the paint wears off. monotone fruit loop colored fish just don't do it for me. The glassfish look a little better, but nowhere near as cool as most cichlids neons, RTBS, etc. Probably not even as cool looking as the normal glassfish, I have never seen one un-dyed, but I would probably buy it if I could find one.

I have never seen a dyed glass fish, I am very lucky.

Oh, and Rupp, go onto,

This link here

to see the best info on tortured fish on the web.

BTW, Rupp, if someones going to change the icon, it ought to be you, seeing as you don't seem to post very often, just a thought.

It's cruel, pointless and stupid. People exploiting an animal for financial gain...yet again.
Winds me right up :grr:

Kick em in the chin :sly: ;)

Chatterbox - you LIKE the practice?!!!! :grr:

You obviously haven't been on the link I posted, and if you have...well, just don't be surprised if you get flamed, O.K?
