I currently have....

4 torpedo barbs (looking for new home asap)
2 kribs
2 gold gouramis
2 opaline gouramis
3 sterbai cories
3 peppered cories
3 Congo tetras (looking for a new home asap)

The tank is a 46 gallon (210 litre) juwel bowfront. It has sand in it, a 200 watt heater set to 24 degrees c and a interpet pf4 filter. I am doing 30 - 40% water changes weekly using a gravel vac.

Do u think this stocking is ok (when i rehome the barbs and tetras)??

Thanks :)

So when you rehome the schoolers you would be left with

2 kribs
2 gold gouramis
2 opaline gouramis
3 sterbai cories
3 peppered cories

That looks good to me - maybe add in some kind of schooling fish like Ruby Barbs or Oddesa Barbs :) Just be careful with the Gourami you have - gold and opaline are just colour variants of the same species so if you have 2 males they will fight quite badly as they grow older.

Thanks 4 the advice :) I have kept other types of barbs before. I had 6 odessas and 6 rosys in my other tank but then wanted something different so i changed that to a red belly piranha tank.... Anything else u could suggest??

1 gold and 1 opaline are around adult size now and i have not yet had any problems although i will keep an eye on them :)

It will just be if you get a bad mix of males with the Gourami - Males have longer dorsal fins where as females dorsals are just stub.

I always like headstanders in a tank - spotted headstanders would work in this size tank as a trio or a group of 4.

dbanner, while I definitely agree the Redline Torpedo Barbs do not fit, I would also say the same of the Peppered Corydoras. These catfish are one of the most temperate species in the hobby, that are quite happy with a temperature as low as 16C (just like the barbs). While 24C is at the other extreme of their range, keeping them at this extreme all year round will shorten their lives through a hightened metabolic rate.

Personally, I would keep the Congo Tetras that are perfect ditherfish for Kribs, but add another three to make a schooling group (3 males, 3 females).

I think It is a close call whether it would be best to up the Sterba Corydoras to six or rehome them, if you were to force the Kribs (a male and female presumeably) to use a single "cave" in one corner of the tank. This would give the catfish the biggest safety margin when the Kribs breed, but when the Krib fry start wandering around the tank being excellently protected by the parents, it has been known for Kribs to peck out the eyes of corydoras that get too close.

Whichever fish you chose to rehome, don't forget to include your location in the advert (I visited your profile to see if you had listed your location).
