I have a 70 litre internal filter juwel tank.
Currenty stocks, 6 harlequin rasboras, 6 cherry barbs, 1 bolivian ram and 2 ottos?
Am I overstocked? I was thinking of replacing the harliquins and ram with 5 chain loaches.
The harlequins done move much at all, is this quite normal?? Set up for 8 months and also have Bogwood.

My harlequins are all over my tank, shoaling, swimming etc.

I think your stocking is ok, maybe add 2/3 more ottos and that would be it imo. If you could get the ram a female/male to pair with that would be ok also, but only if they pair off not two seperate characters ;)

My harlequins are also all over the tank, shoaling and zipping at flake food almost as fast as the zebra danios, which is quite fast.

Rasboras like that sitting still would be a concern I would think. What are your water parameters for ammonia and nitrite and what test kit are you using?

Water parameters are fine, use api test kits.
Ammonia/nitrite = zero. Harliquins just sit and dont swim much apart from feeding time when the go crasy.

you mention you have some bogwood, what else do you have in the tank i.e. decor, plants etc

the vast majority of community fish need some cover in the tank and will feel more secure and be more active with it. They won't care if it's natural bogwood, plants and stones or a bright pink castle, but they do need to have some hiding spots in the tank. If there's not much in there then they could be staying still as a defence mechanism, a lot of predators would sense them by movement, sometimes staying as still as possible is the best defence you can get.

I have 3 plants and one small rock. I may add a couple of more things also if that would help, but its only a small tank and dont want to put too much stuff in there.
