Over Filtration?

do you guys thing a rena filstar 1 is a little overkill on a 10 gallon tank? the tank has 2 khulis, 2 corys, and 1 german ram right now.

If you are talking about this: http/www.thatpetplace.com/pet/prod/199487/product.web, then yes I would say it is overkill. 250gph would turn your tank over 25 times per hour, and I think it would be too much for your fish.

Usually the answer is no, you can't overfiltrate but in this case it would be like using a firehose to water your garden plants. Too much water at once coming out would batter the fish against the glass and probably cause a lot of splashing.

no not over kill, its 250 gph without media and 142 with media, says on the box. But it would be strong. good for river fish but dont keep low flow loving fish.

alright, thanks, i just got a used one for free but i dont know what to use it for. i just have to clean it out a bit because it still has bits a xenia inside.

Yeah... I'd say so. I don't like to use more than 10x filtering.

Make sure you get fish that like current. I dont know what kind of water movement this could produce but you dont want the fish to be in a spin cycle.

Haha, thanks for the replies. I will probably use it when my ram dies off and stock my tank with some danio. I know some people are going to kill me for putting them in a 10 gallon instead of buying a 20 and putting them in there, but i figured if i use this filter, the danio dont even have a chance against the stream of current
