Hi, I was wondering how much difference over filtering makes? Does it improve water quality? Does it really allow you to overstock (as I have read it does) and does it help if you are overstocked already?

The reason I ask is because I was having problems with the fluval 2 in my 50l the water, although the stats were fine, no ammonia or nitrite, was cloudy and the fish (Platies and fry) seemed a bit listless. I had an old, small Aqua El 250 which I stuffed a filter sponge out of my fluval 3 (in a different tank) into and I put that in the 50l alongside the fluval 2 and in 24hrs the water cleared and fish were back to their usual darty selves.

All my tanks are now 'overfiltered' I am running 2 fluval 3's in one 105l tank (mainly to mature the filter for my 140l tank) and I have an Aqua El Uni 1000 UV in another 105l (it states it is suitable for tanks up to 350l)
