Hi guys was hoping for some advice.

I have a few small rocks from my garden, I read that you can clean them in hot water and using white vinegar you can drop some on the rock if its bubbles then they are not suitable. I have done this and no bubbling occurred.

I understand that is a homemade remedy and will be more professional methods to carryout but do you think these rocks will be ok for my tank that currently houses 3 zebra danios and 3 rosy barbs, soon to have amano shrimp and potentially a few platys.

Thanks for your help.

Should be fine, you can boil them, as well

The vinegar test is simply to find out if the rock is calcium based. Limestone and sandstone are calcium based and foam up when vinegar is put on them. These types of rocks can raise the pH of the tank water but are fine if you keep Rift Lake cichlids, goldfish, rainbowfish or livebearers.

As long as the rocks are free of chemicals (herbicides or pesticides), it should be fine.

If you post pictures of the rocks we might be able to ID them for you.

Thank you for the detailed reply, I have a picture of them in a basin just now but still to give them a good clean.
