Hello fellow fish-lovers! I haven’t been on in awhile and I’m not quite sure this is the right place to post, but I would like to introduce some new fish...

As a few of you may know, I’m in the process of setting up a 90 with live java moss. We plan on having a large school of rummy nose tetras, along with a few other species.

Recently we have planted the Java moss on our driftwood, put a heater in, and let the chlorine evaporate. A few days later we discovered that mosquitoes had laid eggs in our moss and now there were dozens of larvae. They were too small for our net to reach, and scooping them would be a full time job. We ended up heading to the nearest pet shop, and picked up two zebra danios.

Since they have arrived it has become quite obvious that we have a male and a female...

They’re named Sacco and Vanzetti, two Italian anarchists accused of crimes around 1910. Sacco is the male, he’s smaller with brighter stripes and he is doing the chasing. Vanzetti is larger, a bit duller, and being constantly annoyed by Sacco.

Twelve hours after they were added, no larvae are left.

I find these little fish quite amusing, as danios are very active. They appear to be trying to school with each other, which is mostly following each other like lost puppies.

Will post pictures soon.

What are your water parameters (KH & GH)? If you like the danios a larger school of them would be a good option for your tank. If indeed you got a pair, breeding should take place soon and with such a huge tank and no enemies (except the parents) fry might survive and hide in the Java moss. Maybe you want to give it some time ;)

Are you sure about the rummy nose? I don't like them at all, they are some of the most boring fish to me ;) Also the colouration is pretty plain. You have tons of different options depending on your water parameters.

These need to be in a school of at least 8 to ten with only 2 they are stressed.

I like zebras - I had 20 at one time, they were brilliant to watch!
