Oscars Pairing

Hi guys,

i think my oscars have paired, they have dug this hole into the gravel so there is a circle of glass and they spend most of their time in that hole, if they are not in the hole they are at the surface waiting for food or scaping stuff around the hole, i have some potted plants in there and they have moved them so there is a wall between the hole and the rest of the tank, the larger one is white and seems chubby around one area and the smaller one looks exactly the same, could these be eggs ?

Sounds very much like they are preparing to spawn. The reason she is so fat is because they lay about 1000+ eggs... If they survive, good luck in finding them new homes!

They have been doing this for around three days now, when will they most likely spawn ?

Mine have been doing the same this week and at 10 inches are quite destructive and not too friendly to the other fish

Must be a season for oscar spawning

Try doing a 50% water change with cooler water... I reckon you will have eggs soon enough.

Mine have been doing it for the past 3 weeks

I'd rather not hav them spawn it's gona be mayhem...

I hate breeding fish, they need there own tank

Might hav to split them up if they do spawn

I already them in their own tank, I just put a piece of flat slate in the tank, I went on a website that said they often breed on flat smooth surfaces, I will dump a bucket of slightly cooler water in there for them,
