are oscars compatable with much? maybe angels? or sevrums? or sharks? dont think so but im just throwin it out there for ur opinions just incase

Oscars are rather individual in their tankmate choices, but they can possibly get on with a variety of american cichlids (severums, blue acaras, jack dempseys) most sharks, though I'd be weary of the black shark, as they get huge. Other tankmates include plecos, silver dollars, giant danios etc

So would they get along with gouramis atall? (opaline, or dwarf(size is my worry with the dwarf)) and angels? and any specific sharks that would or would not work good? (note taken about the black sharks size) and any minimum tank sizes for one? and for a pair aswell (just throwin ideas out there),, this isnt anything in progress, just ideas so whatever suggestions u have ill willingly take them

nope, gouramis won't work, especially dwarf ones. Have you read the pinned topic about oscars in the new world cichlid forum?

Tankmates for oscars really depends on the tank size.. more info would be useful..

In general gouramis and angels don't work, but their have been instances where they've grown up with an oscar and been left alone even when an oscar could easily have eaten them

well with regards to tank size im lookin at getting a 90 gallon if i do go through with this atall.. and i have a 55 with some of the listed fish so the angel and gouramis would stay in that tank. now if i got an oscar,, first off,, would getting 2 be stupid? (im a noob so thats y im asking) and would it be ok with the gouramis // angels for a little untill it gets larger? (i would be buying them at approx. 2 inches long give or take because im not very good with estimating measurments)

wrong forum. oscars need huge tanks so unless he is in a 75+ gallon tank he does not need tankmates. Assuming its a big tank remember that MOST of the time if a fish will fit in an oscars mouth it will be a meal. There is a difference though between being an aggresive fish and being a fish that eats others. in my experience oscars eat small fish but are not aggressive at all. i have seen oscars get harassed to death by aggresive fish much smaller than the oscar so keep that in mind too.

Generally speaking Oscars are fine with othercentral or south american cichlids such as Jack Dempsys, convicts, Midas and others. It's not unhear of to hve an Angelfish with an Oscar, but usually 80% of the time the Oscar will see this as a quick and easy meal, some shark species that could go with Oscars could be Balas and (I've seen it done) Red-tailed black sharks. Plecos, Silver Dollar, Arownas, Clown knife fish, other oddballs and Tinfoil barbs work aswell, I read erlier on here about Giant Danios, personally I think that those would be just another food source.

As said by others, thtank mates for an Oscar really depend on the size of the tank itself.

Unless you buy a mated pair of oscars, then no two is generally not a good idea. I'd just go with getting another type of cichlid, or some dithers to go with it

kk.... NEW POST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I REALLY want an oscar, whats the minimum tank size for one? and what would be the minimum tank size for one with 2 balas? third,, would u have any suggestions for a fish to put in with a single oscar besides balas? and minimum tank sizes for that scenerio:p

I don't agree with this, I had 3 Oscars at 5-8" in a 90 gallon tank and they never showed any agression towards one another.

75 gallons for a single oscar. Balas need to be kept in at least groups of at least 3 and they get 12 inches so those are a no go. Just go to the species index-new world cichlids-oscar. They list many tankmates. A nice size shoal of silver dollars and an oscar in a 90 gallon would look great.

Please note I said "generally not a good idea" I'm sure it can work, just in general most people find it doesn't.

A 75 an oscar and maybe a rainbow shark or red tail shark might work, they don't grow overly big.

I'm currently keeping my O with a rainbow shark, a blue acara and 3 clown loaches (not permanent) they'll end up in a 150g, though for now their in a 55g grow out since their all under 3 inches.
