I have an amazing theory that worked on my old gold fish if i kept a baby oscar in a 10 gal with othe fish it wouldnt grow to its total size becasue of its enviorment . If i did this and bred 2 and made a new small oscar species would that be amazing of wat POST ADVICE AND COMMENTS PLZZZZ!!! An i nuts or What!!

 The thought is there, but it will not work. An oscar will outgrow the tank, and very quickly at that. If you still force it into those confines you will end up with a prematurely dead Oscar.

If you want to breed a smaller Oscar then I'm sure it is possible through selective line breeding, though it would take many tanks and many years.

Thanx alot i was not goin to do it in the first place it was just an alaberate thought

That is called stunting and is probably the most cruel thing you could do to a fish. it didn't "work" with your old goldfish, you just stunted it. It means that essentially the fish's body stops growing, but it's internal organs etc keep on growing and slowly and painfully kill the fish from the inside.
It's a remarkably bad idea, and I hope you were just kidding!!

So many people are amazed when I tell them that the fish stay small because they are stunted and will die prematurely. They think its the way you are supposed to keep your fish! I have had lots of people try to tell me that oscars can be kept in 20 gallon tanks! We had to force one customer to leave our store because he was insisting that he was going to get an oscar and keep it in a ten gallon tank.

I suppose that it would be possible to breed a smaller "dwarf" oscar though it would take a long time to figure it out. I wonder if breeders have tried before?
