Oscar

Oscars are hardy it could "live" for awhile. Thats not a big enough tank for it to live a long healthy life. It will out grow that tanks so fast. I think 100 gal is the smallest tank to keep them in. A 90 gal could be ok.

Ok cool i am getting a 30 gallon tank from somebody and it comes with an oscar and it has been in the tank for 4 years!

Well just because the person your getting the tank from has done this to the Oscar, doesnt mean you need to carry on having it live in these conditions. Likely it is already stunted, as a 4 yr old Oscar should be full grown 14"+, even assuming it has been kept in clean water conditions, which in a 30g tank with a messy fish like an Oscar is difficult, it will still likely be in a poor condition.

The best thing you can do for the Oscar, is to put it up for rehoming, either on here or a site like aquarist classifieds, for free, to a large enough size tank and somebody with experience of Oscars, with a large enough tank, 75g 4ft Minimum, good food and clean water, there is a chance it can live a good life. Please dont continue to keep it in the 30g tank, do the right thing for the fish.

I wasnt planning to keep it im giving it to a friend with a 350 gallon tank..

Good news, I wasnt having a go, sorry if it came across that way, was just trying to get across the best thing for the Oscar :)

Ah sorry our psychic ability's are lacking...

A lot would assume because of the amount of grossly overstocked tanks in your signature.

for oscars NO THEY CANT LIVE its whole life in a 30 galon tank it is PITIFULLY SMALL, a 350 thats a great house, an oscar needs a minimum of 55 gallon tank for it to grow to just 12-13" and in a 90-100 it would grow to 15" and a 55 only gives u space for one oscar and a couple or no company smaller fish at all, it is best to just have an oscar ALONE in a 55 or BEST a 90+ wit an oscar and some tankmates imo i think it will be less bored wit another oscar, oscars are almost like dogs
