hi all,

um i bought a new oscar the other day, sort of saved him from living in filth. anyway his looking a lot happyer but he wont eat.
i tryed feeding him on wat the original owner was feeding him he wont take it, so i tryed to temp him in to some live food no such luck........ any ideas, his a tiger oscar, about 30cm long

:fish: shrimps or prawn ocean stick or maybe some meal worms or crickets mine used to lover crickets and worms
i used to get them from the reptile shop if your going to try him on shrimp or prawn wiggle the shrimp or prawn by the tail or some peas maybe another thing my oscar used to like was dog biscuits :fish:

maybe just the change from were he was to were he is now maybe
he only got fed a a certain time of the day
it might just take a bit of time to get used to new surroundings

He is no doubt stressed from the move, give it time, Oscars can sulk for a long time and refuse to eat for a few weeks, but eventually hunger gets the better of them. For now, keep the lights off or dim, make sure he has plenty of cover and hiding places to make him feel more secure and once a day, try some cichlid pellets, cichid gold sinking or floating, doromin to name a couple (which are the best staple food to get him onto). Ive found fresh prawn is rarely refused, maybe some bloodworm. What isnt eaten, remove after an hour or it will foul the water.

What temperature are you keeping him at? Keep it around 26c, too cold and they become lethargic. The glass fighting is a sign of stress and will subside as he settles. Are there any other fish in the tank with him?

Mine ignores prawns, wont eat anything apart from pellets.

It'll be stress or its in a mood, mine go's a few days without hardly moving if move around the layout of the tank

i keep the tank at 28, theres a few grouramis, tetras, small BN's and plecs, a feather fin, and a 14inch plec, i know its over crowed but compared to wat he was in its heaven i promise that. i know he will probably kill most of them its sad i know only got to wait till the end of the week, ive got him a new home with a female, hopefully they hit it off.

TRY NOT TO GIVE HIM TOO MUCH OF THE "GOOD" STUFF, IE, TUNA BEEF HEART ETC.. WHEN HE GETS ( can be bothered to retype after i realised its all in caps) hungry enough he will eat the food you want him to ;)
