just to say don't discount oscar and parrot fish as a possible combination, it didn't work for me but i attribute that to the size and shape of teh tank, in a larger rectangular tank with more places to divide up territories and a good shoal of dither fish i'm confident it could have worked. the parrot in question is now living in a 6x2x2 with an o, few other cichlids, plecs, catfish, clown loaches and silver dollars pefectly happily. :)

Most of the time O's are good tank mates with parrots.Let's see your tank is 180 gals give or take.
This is how I would do it.
Oscar, 55gals
Severum, 12gals
parrot cichlid, 12gals
Convict cichlid, 10gals
5x silver dollars, 25 gals
pearsei,
15 gals
Some sort of expensive pleco (or more than 1 if they are small), 20 gals
Catfish,personal choice i suppose,
15 gals Firemouth, 10 gals 174 gallons

Cheesy, a sev needs way more than 12G, and its not good to look at a large fish tank the way we would a smaller communtiy tank.

About the o aggression issue, the thing you need to watch out for is the o getting picked on. Even at half of an o's size, a jd, gt, or sev can easily beat up an o.

and hoddy, when you say "large catfish", name some species that your thinking of because many catfish species will grow way too big for your tank
Imo a standard size sev doesn't (if added onto the tanks stocking).Just like to note that oscars are usually more aggressive then sevs...But as always it depends.

The thing with cichlids as most people on here will agree is try to picture them like school children you get friendly ones and you get bullies its the same with cichlidsits really a case of try it and see the stocking for my 150g is texas oscar red shoulder severum Jack Dempsy 5 silver dollars senegal birchir palmas birchir fire eel sorubim lima ornate pim royal plec now all is fine but I do not belive that I wont get any aggression issues I bought them as juviniles so they can grow up together to give myself the best chance you just have to monitor things and if you have a good repour with your lfs and they know the type of tank you have and are willing to accept any fish that dont work out go for it.

Hi im looking into oddballs to go with my oscar and maybe one cichlid any good recommendations for them?

Black Ghost Knife :good:

If you go that way stay away from really aggressive cichilds, as the BGK is really a more docile fish and I think its nocturnal, so while the O is out it'll be hiding and vice versa. Get them when they are little and allow time for acclimation w/ an O of the same size, maybe even a little smaller.
