Hi Folks

Tank is 52"x24"x24" which makes it 111g. In the tank at the moment is two fully grown Oscars and a 8" Plec.
The current filter setup is an Eheim 2028 Pro II, Fluval 304 external and a Fluval 4+ internal.

I'm looking to swap out the Fluval 304 external as its a pain to get started again when it comes maintenance time. The Eheim on the other hand is a breeze. So I'm looking to swap the Fluval for a second Eheim 2028 Pro II @ £120 (with media) or possibly get a Eheim 2229 wet/dry filter @ £170.

Is the wet/dry system worth the extra £50 over the Pro II and does this system work. What are peoples opinons on these two filters and my proposed filter setup, am I going overkill with two filters rated at 132g each?!?! Final question, does anyone have any other suggestions for a suitable replacement external filter.

thanks all

I would say your going overkill.lol...Although oscars and plecs are probably the 2 most messy fish you can get (at a standard fish shop),It's only 3 fish and your tank is big enough to house them.Spend the money on something else! But if you see that it's getting dirty quickly i would buy another filter...Maybe one not the same size but meant for 55-75 gal. :good:

Some oscar sites recommend 10 x filtration - so the more the better. I had a Fluval FX5 on my 510L/135g oscar tank, that runs at 2700lph, I think (it's now on my bigger tank as oscar was rehomed last year), and I still put another 1200lph external and a 1000lph internal on. The more the better with oscars, even more so with oscars and plecs ;)

Lisa - Would you rate the Fluval X5?

Anyone got any comments on the Eheim wet/dry system. Did a search but not finding much in the way of reviews.
I suppose if it’s anything like the Pro II range it should be a good bit of kit.

Saw Eheim now do a Pro III range which is all electronic controlled, adjustable flow rates, pulsing wave like effects etc. Pricey but it was tank pornography

I would yes, I think it's great, I've had it around 14-15 months now with no probs. BUT, I usually get an earful for recommending it - as other folks have had problems with theirs. Saying that - all the people I have met in person who have an FX5 all say they're the business. But that's not a huge number of folks as I dont get out much LOL.

I love mine - but if you do go for one - measure up where you're going to put it - these things are beasts

yeah we've a smaller tank with just 1 oscar and a plec, and we've 3 externals and 2 internals.

i'd definately upgrade to an eheim
