Hi Folks

Looking to redo my Oscar tank, give it a new look. Does anyone have any pics, links or ideas to Oscar only species tanks.

FYI tank size is 4'4" by 2' by 2' and is habited by two Tiger Oscars who are a breeding pair.
Thanks for your input.

I'd like to see how people do their oscar tanks as the only ones ive seen with adults are bare with a few bits of wood in the bottom

I agree black angel. I'd like to see some good looking Oscar tanks but with Oscars being so damaging to any plants in the tank as well as damaging to themselves with any major decor in the tank, it's very hard it seems to find anything feasible to put in an Oscar tank. Misswiggle seems to have an Oscar that hasn't touched the second round of plants that she put in the tank, but who knows if he hasn't already ripped those to shreds by now... maybe if she sees this post she can let us know how he is doing with those.

I would say just try to get some flat decor that the Oscar can't hurt himself with. Plants..... just a guess as to whether the Oscar will not rip them apart or uproot them and start a never ending battle to keep the plants rooted.

It seems like with most other things cichlid, it's just guess and watch to see what happens and give a higher chance of the worse happening :p

my oscar just bit the nob off my heater im so mad cuzz now i have to unplug it instead of use the nob cuzz of him

Misschiavious little bastards..... more reasons to love 'em

PS.... I know I misspelled misschiavious... o well you get the idea :p

Oscars in the wild live in backwater areas with little water movement among fallen trees. If you were to make up a large main piece of root to look like a log and then place several smaller pieces around it it would look much like where they live. I would think that except for maybe anubias or ferns there are few plants that can life with a large cichlid like an oscar.

 Aprilia997 said it right - that's the way to do it if anything.

Black fin shark catfish, or white tip shark catfish

...I think...

But the guy who made the video wrote that it is a red tailed shark...

nah he leaves the plants completely alone, i've left an area with bare sand so he can still dig if he wants to. the plants aren't doing marvellously because I need to upgrade the lighting as it's standard juwel with old bulbs in. but as for oscar he leaves them all alone.

pics in the link in my sig saying if anyone's interested, little bit old now, I keep meaning to get some new pics and post them..... will do my best soon! :)

I love my Oscar but it has been a challenge to make his tank look nice. I tried real plants, they lasted about a week or two before he completely shredded them up, I put silk plants in there which looked really nice until he decided to redecorate his pad. Right now it's just a lonely big ol' piece of bogwood in there. I may try to get some silk plants that suction cup to the back of tank, I would hope he won't be able to detach those! (I can picture him thinking... dang if I only had thumbs!)

Yea he/she said red tail shark but it looks an awful lot like black tip to me. Anyway....I love it.

I was thinking....if you Oscar owners want to keep plants in the tank why not zip tie your plants to some light diffuser and then put the gravel over that. No one will know it was done. Only thing is you'll have permanently planted plants.

Yeah thats a Columbian shark also known as black finned shark, looks pretty large too, unfortunatley its a brackish fish. I had my columbian sharks with my oscars for a long time but I had to transfer to a brackish tank as they fair better with salinity. Anyways I dont really have any good pictures of my oscars with a full tank shot or i'd show mine.. its got a wood looking decoration, a cave, some natural rocks and fake plants (which they seem to like to take out of the gravel)
