I just noticed that my oscar only will eat frozen bloodworms and sometimes pelets but it is a rare site that he does not spit it back out. So is it okay to feed blood worms all the time or should i get frozen brine or beefheart or something. Tank mates are a salvini, 3 jd's, a pleco that eats just about every thing from flake to frozen to walfers.

okay, but will feeding blood worms more than once a week cause consipation or bloating because i am really worried about my oscar becuase all he does is go up and down one side of the tank against the glass and yesterday he looked fine after i feed him bloodworms. so i think he is starving himself in the tank because all he eats is BWs

I too had difficulty feeding my oscar...... he refused most brands of pellets, or like yours, would chew them up then spit them out through his gills. Oscars really should have a staple diet of pellets though. Pellets provide a more complete nutrition than blood worms alone.
I use New Life Spectrum brand........ the very best fish food there is. I'd recommend this brand, if you can find it where you live.
Regardless of which brand you buy, you need to consistently offer the pellets, and not break down and feed him what he likes when he refuses the pellets. He WILL eat, eventually. Oscars can be very stubborn. (You can certainly offer frozen foods as treats, but you should get him accustomed to the pellets first.)

How big is your oscar? My 8 inch oscar doesn't seem to like small pieces of food........ He refused the large NLS pellets I bought for him, instead going for the pleco's wafers....... now I just feed him the wafers.

hes not spitting them out through his gills, that how oscars eat<messy buggers>thats part the reason you need good filteration :good: they are fussy mind, took me two weeks to wean my oscar onto a different brand, but hey there gonna eat one day,,,,picky with me  mine sometimes turn there nose up at the pellets then after about 5mins surprise its all gone :good:peas are a good pooing aid...

my oscar is about 3" and he has gills flukes which is why he won't eat, check emergancy section

my oscar was a fussy eater, adopted him and was told he'll eat anything, but lyk the othas have mentioned, if ur oscar gets a taste for sumtin, it'll reject anything inferior...up2 a point
