They have 3, the limpopo, then the one I mean then one which is similar but has white grains in it too. I'm considering changing my limpopo for it.

Okay here I stand on the project.

I've sorted a new heater out for my tank as the other was poor, i'm looking into getting a Fluval 305 as I kind of broke my Eheim during maintenance a few weeks back (it's functioning but I want a new one).

I've been looking into Amazon themed 3D backgrounds, my only worry is my tank is only just over 15" wide so it's not going to leave me with much room to play with. I'll consider it in the coming weeks.
Substrate i'm nearly decided on Limpopo black sand, think it will look good for what i'm trying to achieve.
Plants i've not looked further into, fish I like the Pencils Ian kindly showed me, definitely think they are something I could happily keep. Other than that fish isn't priority until everything is running sound.
As for wood, i'm just going to have to keep my eye out for nice pieces.

Well been to a few stores's today to have a look around and see if I could get any bits and bobs. Came away with two nice pieces of wood, which i've been having a play around with on the floor to see what I can make out of them.

I'm getting a new filter, was going to get a fluval 305 but the women at MA suggested a range called AquaManta which look pretty cool. They are cheaper than Fluval's and they come with a 4 year warranty! They had none in stock but when they do, i'm going to have a look at them and see what they are like

Had a look at a few fish, like the Pencil fish etc...
Going to order the Limpopo soon

Just a little update on the preparation of the new project.

I got the new external from Maidenhead, good piece of kit actually! I also have a new heater in there, a Fluval E. I think I need a couple more pieces of wood, similar to the one's I bought a few weeks ago. Just to make sure there is plenty of cover and so the tank does not really look empty. I've offloaded the BA Tetra's to Russell, a fellow forum member. Now I'll just need to get rid of my other fish (apart from my KH Cichlids and my L202).
I've ordered my susbstrate. I settled for ECO-complete rather than Limpopo, i'll just have to be careful with the initial change in pH etc when changing from my current sand. I'm going to have it deeper at the back and a thinner layer at the front.


Plants I still need to reserach but i'm thinking Amazon swords all along the back. I just hope I can grow them well on liquid carbon, fertz & trace. Also like the look of Myriophyllum mattogrossense I can't find anywhere that says it's found in the Orinoco, just south american rivers. A floating plant like Limnobium laevegatum will also be used. I doubt i'll get away with a carpet plants like hairgrass. As I have a suspicion my KH will dig it. Maybe I could try Lilaeopsis as another plant. Any thoughts/input on the plants?

Fish, fish, fish. The least of my worries at the minute. I want to get the tank spot on before I add more.
A few options i'm considering.

6 Cleithracara maronii - already got.
10-15 Nannostomus beckfordi ?
4-6 nannostomus mortenthaleri - maybe a small break off from the main shoal. I believe these are pretty pricey.
Maybe a few Nemadoras leporhinus - Wills pointed these out, I quite like them.
Peckoltia Lineola - already got 1, which I believe is a male.

Hatchetfish?

Edit: I know i'm taking my time with this one, but I want to do it right. & I've not had a great deal of time recently.

Post 3 might help you with your plant search, although there is nothing specific on the Orinoco Basin there's rather a lot of plants there which might give you some ideas! Hope it helps
