Hi all
i wanted to order 5 tropical shrimp online  and the only delivery option is on a day that won't be suitable for me. I am just asking if my LFS would receive them and hold them for me until i can collect them on the same day so they don't get returned to the sender. If i buy tons of stuff before would they do you think?
thanks

If they don't stock them and it's a independant store that you buy off I would have thought that they would be ok with it. Only one way to find out!

Whats that got to do with anything?

I've found ordering shrimp results in a lot of deaths.

I have had great success buying shrimp online, it all depends on the species of shrimp, and the expected ambient temperatures. Too hot and the shrimp can literally cook in transit, especially if the delivery car/ van is left parked in the summer sun for any amount of time. To cold and no heat packs for a tropical shrimp will also spell disaster. Also how the shrimp are sent depends on survival. Plastic bottles with some weed works well as do kordon breathable bags which can have either some weed or no weed for the shrimp to cling too.

There fore when I order shrimp (usually from private sellers), I try to plan around expected daytime and night temperatures, to ensure there is not too much flux. I usually look at the expected temps for at least 3 days since I know from experience parcels even expressed posted can take 2-3 days to reach me.

As for asking your local fish shop if they will accept and hold your purchase is a good idea, provided you have already organised with them the care/ treatment of the parcel once in their care. Eg. Do you want them to open the parcel and acclimatise the shrimp to their set ups ( do they know how to do this correctly and what pH,dH and kH the shrimp where previously kept in), and are they able to house the shrimp where the shrimp wont be more stressed by lots of light and activity around their temp housing.  Or do you simply want them to hold onto the sealed parcel until you can collect at a later time?

My first and only order online of 5 shrimp resulted in 3 barely alive and 2 fairly frozen to death shrimp.
They were really poorly packaged though. I suggest you get ready with a camera when they arrive and take pictures before you open that bag!! The shop where I ordered them specializes in shrimp and they were very rude, almost telling me I killed them somehow. I wanted them replaced as the ones I got alive were all males, but by the time they agreed on any type of refund(thankfully I did take some pictures to prove it), they told me they ran out of them, so they gave me my money back. Very poor customer service, won't spend my money with them again so I just didn't order anymore.
But I've ordered fish online from other places and they were superbly packed and arrived all. So it just depends who you order from.
