I find the show to be very entertaining. They people on the show are cool and the aquariums are gorgeous, BUT they severely overstock all of their tanks! It makes me crazy! Like the one where they built a pinball machine tank and they put like 30 angelfish in each tank! Like, come on!

i know i was thinking that tank could maybe hold a pair but not 30 like they did

ive not seen tanked ive seen fish tank kings though - some of the things they do on there are amazing :)

They make awesome tanks, i just wonder 1. how they get them cycled and 2. why they put so much fish into the tanks

The show is highly edited. They will do things for the tank reveal that they later change. They want that big wow but I've seen clips where they show the same tank but it has half the fish, or even totally different fish.
When the show first came out aquarists really hit it hard on the Internet so they did make a lot of changes to the show, such as talking about acclimation and temperature. The owners of ATM actually put out a statement explaining some of what went on and it made sense what they were saying, things like...yes we acclimate the fish but that's boring so Animal Planet doesn't show that...etc.

So, I watch the show and enjoy it. I find it amusing and many of the tanks are well made.

If I had the megabucks to buy the system of my dreams I would trust them to build it based on what I've read about them rather than what I've seen on the show.

It just goes to show...not everything you see on TV is real, even on so called reality TV.

Ya i noticed in more recent episodes how they explain their process and such. And i totally agree that they are extremely talented and i would also love to have an aquarium built by them. My dream tank is an aquarium headboard. Holy cow that would be wicked sweet!

I was thinking about getting my 300 gallon from one of their branches but not sure.

Mine is pretty much an entire house build around tanks. Each tank plumbed into the walls running throughout the house to a single fish utility room that houses hospital, quarantine, breeding, frag, and other tanks for marine, brackish and FW systems each running to a massive sump and filtration system in that room. Water changes to any tank in the house would be done by a single button push in this room and would be done on a daily basis in small amounts.

Like I said...dream system...minimum of 10,000 gallons, more if I could pull it off.

wow!

As you can tell...I've thought about it quite a bit. :)

I personally like the show but I haven't heard a lot of good things. Some of the tanks have shown up for sale in the last year like the doughnut tank and the skateboard ramp tank. I was not a fan of the drum set tank. No fish should have to be put through that. I feel this show should be taken for what it is, entertainment and cheap advertising for companies. Here is a video of one of their tanks at Disneys t-rex café.

the show is bad actually, they also use those "miracle" cycling chemicals and their stocking options are waaaay to wide and they house different aggressive fish with each other

For cycling they actually use media that they mature in house at their warehouse, I remember them saying it in an episode

You have to watch the show for what it is, entertaining! the tanked guys are so funny they are more like Laurel and Hardy. Also the business side of the operation "the customer is always right". Tanks have to be supplied and stocked as per the customers wishes, if a customer wants an over stocked tank, that is what they get. They can advise customers on stocking, but lets face it. If a customer has just paid thousands of dollars for a purpose built display tank to "wow" his customers in his bar, casino, shop etc he wants his customers "wowed" by seeing lots of fish.

So true! They always crack me up! Plus i have noticed that a lot of their customers are very demading, but like you said, they're dropping thousands on their tank, so its gotta be their way or the highway.
