My new setup is going to be 55gl heavily planted with co2 addition and 2 fluval canister filters, 304 and a 305. The pH is 7.6. I am falling in love with rainbow fish and this is my current idea.

5 boesemani rainbows
5 axelrodi rainbows
10 pseudomugil or blue-eye rainbows
3 peacock gudgeon.
1 bitterling as a "centerpiece fish"

and when the tank is more established adding a couple neon blue gobies and filtering shrimp.

I am open to any suggestions

Sounds like you have a good start. That's a lot of fish for a 55 gallon. Keep in mind that some of those rainbows can get big. You may have to ditch the bitterling. I've been thinking about rainbows, but haven't had a community tank for a while now. Good luck! May the force be with you.

Sounds good
BUT
I would get 1 group of 10 instead of 2 groups of 5 rainbows

I would usually advise bigger tanks for the bigger rainbows as they are quite active - have you considered a bigger school of Dwarf Neon Rainbows? I think you will be just about ok with the others but it is the bare minimum where as the Neon Rainbows would thrive and they are really really stunning!

You know, I had come across the dwarf neons early on but rejected them because the pH in my tank was too high but I just read a little more and they can tolerate higher than I initially thought. They are a beautiful fish. And you're right, I do just barely get away with 48" of tank on the larger rainbows. Thanks, you have given me something to think about. I'm glad fishless cycling takes a few weeks.

With this and what Wills said I wonder if I should ditch the beosamani and axelrodi and just go with 10 or 12 of the dwarf neons? That might look really nice.
