After reading another post on here about dwarf gourami's someone suggested about having a ratio of 2 female to 1 male to stop the pestering male stressing out the female. I currently have a male and female opaline gourami and i'm considering getting another female cos there is a bit of pestering going on in my tank, my question is, the new female does it need to be an oplaline or could i go for another type of gourami ? Maybe a flame red, (i think that's the correct name) would this still sort the problem or do they need to be of the same breed ?

cheers

It would be best to stick to the same breed, as it is unlikely that the Male Opaline will see a Female of a different species as a potential mate. It does happen ocassionaly, but if you are adding to reduce pastering, IMO it would be best to stick with fish of the same species :good:

All the best

thanks for all your replies, i'll have a look into getting another opaline then ! Didn't think fish were so fussy !! LOL :good:

Yes they are. Especially the Opaline. Mine is a big meanie and had to be moved to my Cichlid tank ! He's a beauty though, and got quite big !
