Early yesterday, I started to drain water from one of my ponds with no fish in the pond (at a slow rate)..... When the pond had around 15% water left..... I put the garden hose in there and started filling it with the (slow) drainage still in place.
Now.... this pond is adjacent to a Guppy pond (with about 500 guppies in it) and interconnected by an overflow pipe into the Guppy pond.... At around 20h00 last night..... (pond almost full).... I got a phone call and spoke on the phone for about 10 minutes..... AND THEN!!!!.... I completely forgot about the filling process going on outside and eventually went to bed.
This morning at around 07h00..... I suddenly remembered about the filling process going on outside and rushed out to see that the "no-fish" pond overflowed into the guppy pond which (in turn) overflowed into the garden......
Needless to say that both ponds must've had a ten times volume displacement/replacement during the 11 odd hours that I was filling them, thus meaning that my 500 Guppies were now in pure tap water directly from the hose........
Apart from a few males which overflowed with the current into the garden...... I do not notice any other ill effects on those still in the pond.... in fact..... they actually look cheerful and full of life. I'll monitor to see that they remain fine.
