ok guys, so this seems like an odd birth for a fish.

I have a tank with two pot belly mollies. They r both female. After only a couple weeks of having these guys, one of them looked pregnant and the next thing i know a little fish is floating around in the water.

The thing that leaves me confused is that there is only one fry. I am positive that she did not give birth to any other fish. i thought that fish always gave birth to large numbers of fry.

Whats going on?

she may have had more than one and they got eaten or are still hiding, they are very good hiders and tend to hide between the gravel, or mollies are known for holding on to fry and not giving birth but since you have seen one then there are more than likely more
what other fish do you have?

I have been looking like crazy and i am pretty positive there is only one fry. he is about 2 weeks old now. the two pot belly mollies are the only fish in the tank.

After two weeks any fry that you have not spotted are probably not there. Have you checked carefully in the filter? They can sometimes be pulled into a filter and survive the trip which would put them swimming around in the well part of the filter and eating whatever scraps come in from the tank. It's worth checking although not the most likely place to find the rest of your drop.

they arent in there either. i dont know how this could of happened. the only thing i can think of is a fry was put in the bag that i got my two fish in. He is about a 1cm long by now
