Tank 40x15x18. Juwel Rio 180.
APS 1000lph external.

Stock;
2x GBR
15x Black phantom tetra (might end up with cardinal / green neon)
9x Corydora Sterbai

The site says 70%, I would have thought this would be pretty much full, what do you guys think?

Tank will be moderately planted, low tech.

Online calculators are flawed in many ways. Aggression and territory can't be calculated by them, and they tend to assume that all fish are equal by length, which is far from the case.

You may struggle with flow on the APS 1000 for that size of tank, I've got the 2000 on a 30 x 12 x 15 and it's hardly a whirlpool.

As for stock, you may well be able to get a little more in, so long as you chose carefully.

Links to these awful websites are banned for a reason. They are horribly inaccurate in terms of their knowledge of fish species etc but also it cant take into account the personality and behaviour of each species which is crucial.

I advise you share your tank stats (size, shape if not standard rectangle, filtration, your cleaning and water change routine, your water quality etc) and lots of people here can not only suggest species but give you reasons as to why they would work :)

I have wondered about the filters capability, when I bought it I thought a 1000lph filter would be fine on a 180l tank, guess that's a very enthusiastic figure though.

Looking at a internal filter to accompany it, but that was the whole reason I bought an external this time, to have the tank clean. For £50, I guess it just was too good to be true.

Tank is still cycling, fishlessly, so maintenance is still to come, 20% WC weekly I imagine.

The tank is a rectangle yes, dimensions are listed in first post :)

I'd say they are relatively accurate for your average community tank but yes, they rarely take aggression and activity levels into account.
I think it would be unfair to label them as completely useless though as they are good for rough sock planning.

Here is my tap water values.

That is ~130cm of adult fish in a 180l, which is overstocked IMO by ~20cm.

That stocking will also leave the upper and mid water empty of fish most of the time, even the (Phantom) tetra are more likely to be found lower parts of the tank.

Water change % is going to more than 20% weekly, your tap water comes with 34-38ppm nitrate out of the tap before your fish add to that, ~50% weekly is far more realistic.
