Hello all,

I'm new here, would appreciate some advice. Have a 10 gallon tank, been up and running only around 4 months, so I'm a total newbie. Everything fine so far, did a lot of online research before getting started.

Anyway, we bought 2 dwarf gouramis last week, after the guy in the shop said that would be fine (I know, should have checked before buying...).

Needless to say they're not getting on too well.

So should I remove one? Forums such as your good selves suggest one is better than two. Do shops let you return fish? Or do people give them away? Or might they settle in? There are quite a few plants in there, but all at the bottom, if that makes a difference.

Any advice appreciated. And just in case its important, we only have 5 tetras in there apart from the guaramis, been taking our time stocking the tank.

Many thanks.

a 10gal is pushing it for housing 1. 2 is not recommended.

I presume you also have 2 of the brilliantly coloured males? They will fight, and probably to the death, even in tanks 3-4 times that size I'm afraid.

Definately try to take at least one back.

thanks for the reply Zod. In your experience do shops take fish back, or are they too concerned about disease? Not worried about money, just don't know what else to do with the little fella.

a good shop will. Just explain the situation and if there is no obvious signs of illness then the shop should take them.

I've taken a couple of fish back for the very same reason.
