Should really have got a pic of Burt the Convict first, as we got him last Friday, but he's such a busy little guy picking around the tank and my camera battery is low, so will take a pic of him tomorrow.

Anyway, here is the chappy that we travelled miles for. A Red Spot Severum, who I am pretty sure is male. He's 3". He's great, looks fantastic in the tank and has slotted right in.

Can you sex Severums by their anal fin? If it's pointed it's male, if it's rounded it's female? Because I think my Green Sev is a female. My Green is only about 2" now though, so maybe too early to tell? She isn't as chunky as the Red Spot.

My rotties both have long pointed anal fins, with them the male has red squiggles on his face, only show up in mature males. I think its the same with red spot and other sevs all have long fins its to do with face markings (so I read somewhere)

Edit:  forgot to say, gorgous fishy :hey:

Cool thanks :) He has lots of squiggles on his face, so I'll think of a boy name for "him" and time will tell what he is

A nice lad !!

Looks like a chap to me. Apparently most red-spotted golds are male, for some reason.
My male red-spotted gold has only just started to get pointy extended dorsal/anal fins. He is about 4.5" now.

Could be either, you can't really tell on Red Spots, they all seem to look the same.

The males tend to be more intense and get bigger, also tend to be infertile.

If the males are infertile how do they make new baby Red Spots?
